Barron Trump received rapturous cheers and applause as he attended his father's Florida rally amid Donald Trump's ongoing efforts to land a second presidential term.
The youngest of the former president's children, and his only child with wife Melania Trump, the 18-year-old was given a moment in the spotlight as his father introduced him at a campaign event near Miami on Tuesday night.
Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump introduced all three of his sons to the crowd of supporters, before saying that it was "the first time" his youngest offspring had ever attended a rally. He also teased his son's future in college.
The Republican was seemingly caught off guard by the crowd rising to give a standing ovation when he began to introduce his youngest son, saying, "Oh, look at this!"
"A very young man who's now going to college," Donald Trump said while continuing the introduction. "Got into every college he wanted to and he made his choice. And he's a very good guy, I'll tell you…He's a very special guy, Barron Trump. This is the first time he's ever done this."
Donald Trump then asked the teen to stand up, as he told the crowd: "Look at him!" The recent high school graduate obliged, briefly waving to the crowd and pumping his fist before his father said he is "pretty popular" and "might be more popular" than older sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.
"Barron, it's good to have you," Donald Trump said. "Welcome to the scene, Barron. I don't know. He had such a nice easy life, now it's a little bit changed."
Newsweek has contacted a representative of Donald Trump via email for comment.
Footage of Barron Trump's moment in the spotlight was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by Bo Loudon, a rising political influencer whose parents are conservative commentator Gina Loudon and former Missouri state senator John William Loudon. Gina Loudon was on the 2020 Trump campaign's media advisory board.
"MY FRIEND BARRON TRUMP JUST GOT A STANDING OVATION FROM 45,000 PEOPLE IN DORAL, FLORIDA!" Bo Loudon, 17, captioned the 10-second-long clip. "Congratulations, happy for you bro! Share to make this go viral!"
As of press time, the video had garnered more than 400,000 views.
Barron Trump's choice of college remained publicly unknown at the time of publication, although possibilities include New York University, Georgetown University and the University of Pennsylvania.
In a September 2023 interview with Megyn Kelly, the former president said that his son was "thinking about" attending his father's alma mater, The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
During an appearance on Fox News' Fox & Friends Weekend in June, Trump suggested that Barron's college search had been altered because of "rioting" during a wave of pro-Palestinian protests at campuses across the nation.
"Six months ago you look at a college, and you sort of want a certain college," Trump said. "And then you see all of these colleges are rioting and maybe you want to go to a different kind of a college. Because there's plenty of colleges that we also like that are different and they don't riot."
Barron Trump has kept a relatively low profile, mainly appearing silently by his family's side at campaign events. That changed in May, when it was announced that the teen, who had graduated from high school that month, would be a Florida delegate at this month's upcoming Republican National Convention.
It was shared in the announcement that he would be joining his half-siblings Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump at the event.
However, just a day later his mother shot down the prospects of him being a delegate, saying via a spokesperson: "While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments."
In a rare public appearance alongside Donald Trump earlier this month, Barron sat on a golf cart next to his father as the ex-president denounced President Joe Biden as an "old broken down pile of crap" and Vice President Kamala Harris as "so f****** bad."
