Brad Pitt's rocky relationship with his six children has been under scrutiny for years — and perhaps now more than ever.

The Oscar winner — who shares Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15 with ex-wife Angelina Jolie — "has virtually no contact with the adult kids," a source recently told People, adding that Pitt's "engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule." (The actor has been busy filming F1, which dropped its first trailer earlier this week.)

Moreover, the insider noted, while Jolie, 48, "has the kids most of the time," due to their custody agreement, "he has visitation with the younger kids."

All three of Pitt's daughters have recently dropped his last name from theirs: in May, Shiloh requested that her name be legally changed; Zahara dropped "Pitt" from her sorority induction in 2023, and Vivienne opted to only use "Jolie" as her surname while serving as an executive producer on The Outsiders this year.

The update on Pitt's apparent estrangement from his children comes eight years after Jolie, 48, claimed in court documents that he "choked one of the children and struck another in the face" during the family's now-infamous 2016 flight from France to Los Angeles, during which, Jolie further alleged, Pitt "grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her." After an FBI investigation into the alleged incidents, Pitt — who has denied all allegations — was not arrested or charged with any crime.

Pitt's alleged actions on the flight led to a long, drawn-out divorce for the pair and a lengthy custody battle over the children.

Now, as the six Jolie-Pitt kids are in their teen and early adulthood years, Pitt is reportedly struggling with their estrangement from him.

Shiloh's legal request to drop her father's surname has been particularly difficult for the Fight Club star, who is "aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name," a source told People last month, adding: "The reminders that he's lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It's very sad."

The insider added: "He still loves all of his kids tremendously. This whole process has been very hard for the whole family."

While Pitt is "still happy with [girlfriend] Ines [de Ramon]," the fractured relationship with his children "pains him," the source told People.

Almost in an illustration of this point, Pitt spent Sunday, July 7, at the 2024 British Grand Prix with de Ramon, whom he has been linked to since 2022. (Pitt is filming the Formula 1 movie in England.) Jolie, for her part, was photographed at a pet store in Los Angeles with son Knox that same day.
