Jon Bon Jovi lost his mother on Tuesday, July 9.

Carol Bongiovi passed away at 83 years old at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. No cause of death was given.

The loss comes just three days before Carol's 84th birthday. "Our mother was a force to be reckoned with. Her spirit and can-do attitude shaped this family. She will be greatly missed," the singer said in a statement shared to People Magazine.

Bon Jovi's mother, born Carol Sharkey in Erie, Pennsylvania, was described as an entrepreneur with many businesses, and used to work as a Playboy Bunny. She joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959, which is where she met her husband, John Bongiovi Sr. The couple would go on to raise their family in Sayreville, New Jersey, before moving to Holmdel, New Jersey, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Bon Jovi's parents Carol and John were featured in the music video for "Story of Love," released in 2021. Carol was the founder of Jon Bon Jovi's official fan club, and ran it out of the flower shop she owned in Woodbridge, New Jersey, when his band began to find fame.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, her three sons and daughters-in-law, as well as her eight grandchildren, per her obituary shared on the Holmdel Funeral Home website.

The family's loss comes after Bon Jovi, wife Dorothea Hurley, son Jake Bongiovi, 22, and his new wife, Millie Bobby Brown, 20, were enjoying a vacation in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. The family was all smiles in photos obtained by Page Six on the vacation, which also seemed to be a honeymoon for newlyweds Jake and Brown. The young couple tied the knot in a secret, "low-key" ceremony in May 2024, but are reportedly planning a larger ceremony in Italy for later this summer.

Brown and Jake had also celebrated their honeymoon at Universal Studios Orlando in June 2024. The pair shared a joint Instagram post featuring a carousel of loved-up photos on June 3. Brown showed off her new marital status by sporting a "wife of the party" baseball cap, in addition to denim shorts and a bracelet emblazoned with the word "wifey."
