Mark Ruffalo has opined that work needs to be done to "start limiting the scope of the damage" Donald Trump could purportedly do should he win a second term as president in the upcoming election.

Presumptive Republican nominee Trump is expected to face off against President Joe Biden at the polls this coming November. Following a disastrous performance during his first presidential debate of the cycle with Trump, Biden has faced calls from a number of prominent Democrats to step down as the party's candidate.

Hollywood actor Ruffalo, a longtime Trump critic who counts himself among those who continue to support Biden, shared in a social media post his feeling that the current president should make moves to limit his opponent's power should the election result in the Republican returning to the White House.

On July 9, a link to an article on the website Zeteo was posted to X, formerly Twitter, bearing the headline: "Biden Must Abolish War on Terror Now or We Risk Trump's Political 'Retribution' Campaign."

"Trump is promising retribution," read an accompanying caption. "The Supreme Court is teeing it up for him. Biden has to act like he has six months to abolish as much of the War on Terror as possible."

Avengers star Ruffalo reposted the message as he criticized the electronic surveillance of U.S. citizens that was implemented to combat terrorism.

"If we are looking down the barrel of Trump2. Then we better start limiting the scope of the damage he can do now. Biden can start that process today," Ruffalo wrote. "Regardless if he wins or not, this mass surveillance is bad for democracy.

"This mass surveillance apparatus In the hands of an 'emperor president' is the perfection of the techno-dictatorship on steroids."

As of press time, Ruffalo's post has garnered more than 100,000 views. Newsweek has contacted representatives of Trump and Ruffalo via email for comment.

Last week, Ruffalo also spoke out against Trump as he criticized the initiative Project 2025 in a scathing X post.

Project 2025 is an initiative developed by conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation, to make significant changes to the U.S. federal government. It's designed to be implemented should Trump win the election.

The project is built around a conservative policy agenda and aims to ensure that Republican loyalists are in place at all levels of the federal bureaucracy to carry out policies, effectively from the first days of a new administration. If enacted, it would bring significant changes across various aspects of American life, encompassing government operations, environmental regulations, social policies and civil service structures.

Ruffalo commented: "Project 2025 is not a game, it's white Christian nationalism. It is the Sharia Law of the 'Christian' crazy people who aren't Christian at all but want to control every aspect of your life through their narrow and exclusionary interpretation of Christ's egalitarian, inclusive, and kindly teachings."

"Don't be fooled by Project 2025's extremist and perverse ideology," the politically outspoken actor went on. "Trump is bringing it to all our lives: abortion, LGBTQIA+ rights, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of education, and equality between the races and genders—GONE. Forced birth and forced religion. Trump's American Taliban."

The actor is one of many Trump detractors who have used their platform to share opinions on how they believe a second term for the Republican would play out.

Trump's estranged niece, Mary Trump, whose platform has been used to frequently criticize her uncle, wrote in a June Substack post that the former president "cannot be trusted and we must recognize that his last administration was simply a warm-up for much worse to come," warning that he speaks of "revenge" and "retribution."

"He is desperate for power and has shown himself both unworthy of wielding it and obsessed with regaining it purely for his own benefit. He must be stopped," she said.

"If the worst happens and Donald gets back into the White House, none of us who ever criticized him will be safe because revenge and retribution are what he traffics in. I'm here tonight because only President Biden can stop Donald and save our country."
