Shannen Doherty's Beverly Hills, 90210 castmates are paying tribute to the actress after her death at age 53.

Doherty, who valiantly fought cancer for years before her death on Saturday, July 13, was a pop culture icon due to starring roles in the 1988 cult classic movie Heathers and the hit 1998 WB show Charmed. But it was her portrayal of Brenda Walsh on 90210 — whom she played from 1990 to 1994 — that she'll be most remembered for.

Jason Priestley, who portrayed Brenda's twin brother, Brandon Walsh, was one of the first 90210 cast members to publicly pay tribute to Doherty in the wake of her passing.

"Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen. She was a force of nature and I will miss her," the actor wrote on Sunday, July 14, just hours after Doherty's publicist announced the actress' death. "Sending love and light to her family in this dark time." Priestley shared the tribute via Instagram alongside a photo of him and Doherty in character as the Walsh twins.

Carol Potter, who portrayed Brenda and Brandon's mom, Cindy Walsh, also honored Doherty on social media.

"Shocked and saddened by news of Shannon Doherty's [sic] death. What a journey she has been on! Gone too soon," Potter wrote via Instagram on Sunday. "Throughout, she stayed true to herself and gave us an example of courage and perseverance in facing her own death. May she rest in peace."

Gabrielle Carteris, who played Andrea Zuckerman on the longrunning series, also mourned Doherty.

"So young - so sad. May you RIP Shannon [sic]," Carteris wrote. "I know Luke [Perry] is there with open arms to love you."

Both Carteris and Potter shared photos of the sky in their tributes.

Doherty's longtime publicist shared the news of her client's death in a statement on Sunday, July 14.

"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease," Doherty's rep Leslie Sloane told People. "The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace."

Doherty's passing comes five years after the death of her 90210 costar and onscreen love interest, Luke Perry. The actor — who portrayed Dylan McKay on the beloved series — died of a stroke in 2019. He was 52 years old.
