King Charles III has written a private letter to Donald Trump delivered by the British Embassy, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

The monarch, 75, reached out to the former president after he survived an attempted assassination at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Aides are not releasing the text of the king's letter but say it is in line with comments by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. It was delivered through Britain's embassy in Washington.

Starmer wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "I am appalled by the shocking scenes at President Trump's rally and we send him and his family our best wishes.

"Political violence in any form has no place in our societies and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack."
