Princess Charlotte's appearance at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships on Sunday contained a touching tribute to her mother, Princess Kate, who was making her second official outing of the year following her cancer diagnosis.

Kate and Charlotte were accompanied in the royal box at Wimbledon's famous Centre Court by Pippa Matthews, Kate's younger sister. They watched Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the holder of a record 24 grand slam titles, take on Wimbledon's returning champion, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz.

As the royal party took their seats, Kate received a standing ovation from the crowd, accompanied by enthusiastic cheering, a touching reaction as the princess continues to receive preventative chemotherapy treatment following her diagnosis with an undisclosed form of cancer, which was announced in March.

Another touching tribute on Centre Court was paid by Charlotte, whose dark navy and white polka dot dress with butterfly sleeves was a near match for a dress Kate wore to the same event in 2022.

Charlotte's dress was identified by Women's Wear Daily as a chiffon polka dot model by American fashion brand Guess, and it has since sold out online. It retails for $88. She accessorized with a pair of pink Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Charlotte's dress was closely linked in style to one worn by Princess Kate to the Wimbledon men's final back in 2022. Hers was mid-length in dark navy and white polka dots with ruched sleeve and bodice bow detailing.

The princess' dress was designed by Alessandra Rich, a designer who Kate has used often in recent years.

Rich is well-known for putting a modern twist on vintage classic design pieces, with the 1980s forming a central reference point for her collections. Rich has said she is inspired by high-profile women of the past and how they have dressed for important moments in their lives. These women have included Kate's mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana.

Charlotte's Wimbledon fashion link to her mother was quickly spotted by fans online and has become the basis of several viral social media posts.

Uploaded to TikTok by user uksroyalprincess on July 15, footage of the little princess at the sports event has been compared side by side to that of her mother back in 2022.

Captioned "Mother like daughter 🥹," the footage has been viewed over 190,000 times on the platform so far, and gained in excess of 18,000 likes and numerous comments, many of which have praised the royal duo.

"This was so cute," wrote one TikTok user, with another adding: "I love them."
