Former Playboy model Jenny McCarthy spoke about a time she suddenly got her period while filming The View.

McCarthy appeared as a regular co-host on the daily talk show from 2013-2014 and opened up on a shocking moment that happened to her during one show.

She spoke of the incident during Wednesday's episode of the podcast, Let's Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa.

McCarthy and the morning talk show host spoke about the reality of appearing on interview-style shows and how terrifying they can be for celebrities.

Ripa then asked McCarthy to open up about some her more outlandish stories while appearing on The View.

"I have some stories from there and given, all of them turn funny," she began as she mused on which story to tell.

McCarthy then chose to recount the time she was sitting on the iconic light blue couch where the co-hosts often interview high-profile celebrities. While McCarthy cannot remember who she was interviewing, she did remember feeling her monthly menstruation coming on.

"All of a sudden my eyes go wide because I just feel like this rush of a period and when in your 40s, when you're perimenopausal, you bleed out. You basically hemorrhage, you know, your uterus falls out," she said, adding: "I'm sorry. But it does."

Perimenopause is the time directly before menopause which is "marked by changes in the menstrual cycle, along with other physical and emotional symptoms," according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

While you still have periods during perimenopause, the fluctuating and low hormone levels—especially estrogen—in the body can trigger many symptoms, including heavy periods, per Newson Health.

McCarthy continued her story, saying she began crossing her legs harder to prevent the menstrual blood flowing down her legs on TV, because "of course I'm wearing a freaking dress."

When the interview ended, and it was time to reset the stage, McCarthy remained on the couch.

"Everybody gets up except for me, and I just stay," she said.

She tried to call over a crew member because she did not want to announce over the microphone.

"Someone came over and I explained to them, and they're like, 'it's gonna be fine. Just get up and run,'" McCarthy said. She told the crew member: "You don't understand perimenopausal periods. This is going to be a disaster. You have to push me out."

The actress eventually made a dash off the couch to backstage where the crew and cast could see the blood through the dress and according to McCarthy, "they were all horrified."

Ripa responded to her anecdote saying: "Talk about a scary movie. You've been through the craziest s***."

McCarthy's appointment to The View was met with protest over her controversial views on vaccines and autism. She had published a series of books claiming standard childhood vaccines had likely given her son autism, a view which has no medical basis.

She eventually left the show in 2014 after only one year, and later admitted the network had asked her to leave the show to have a more diverse line-up of co-hosts.
