Roseanne Barr has come to the defense of Ingrid Andress following her heavily criticized national anthem performance on Monday, July 15.

The Roseanne star spoke to TMZ on Wednesday, July 17, urging critics to ease up on the country singer, noting that "The Star-Spangled Banner" is notoriously difficult to sing. She stated to the outlet that Andress, 32, did a commendable job despite the backlash.

The singer, who is also a four-time Grammy nominee, sang the song before the MLB Home Run Derby at Texas' Globe Life Field on Monday night. The off-key performance received backlash from people online, with some dubbing it "one of the worst national anthem renditions ever."

While many have labeled Andress' rendition at the game a strikeout, Barr believes it is she that still holds that infamous title. In 1990, The 71-year-old's own attempt at the anthem during a San Diego Padres game received boos and widespread criticism from sports fans, media, and even then-President George H.W. Bush, who called her performance "disgraceful." Barr, during a press conference, retorted, "I'm sorry I didn't sing so good. But I'd like to hear him sing it."

As for Andress, the songstress revealed the following day that she had been intoxicated during the performance and announced her decision to enter rehab. "I'm not gonna bulls–t yall, I was drunk last night," she admitted via X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday, July 16. "I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need." Andress also apologized to MLB, baseball fans, and the country, expressing regret for her performance before ending the post, "I'll let y'all know how rehab is I hear it's super fun."

Fans were seemingly supportive of the "Wishful Drinking" singer, leaving replies like, "it takes a lot of backbone to own it. Good luck in recovery," and, "You can do it! One day at a time. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ." Another fan noted, "Accountability is the first step to recovery. Wishing you well. ❤️," wishing the star well.
