Amy Robach and TJ Holmes have revealed that they were almost robbed while visiting Rome, calling the situation both "funny" and "dramatic."

The former Good Morning America 3 co-anchors left their lucrative roles in 2022 after news leaked they had formed a romantic relationship. Robach and Holmes were both still technically married to their spouses at the time, but it was reported they had each been separated for months before their relationship became public knowledge.

After they departed the show, they started a podcast together titled Amy & TJ Podcast. Their first episode went live on December 5, 2023, exactly one year after they were taken off the air.

Now in an episode released on Friday, the couple discussed how they were almost robbed Thursday night while out for dinner in Rome—but they were able to laugh their way through the experience.

Newsweek emailed Robach and contacted Holmes via Instagram for comment on Friday.

"Look, New York is, you've got to keep your eye on your stuff in New York, but here is at another level to where everyone—it seems like everyone we run into was like, 'Hold onto your bag, onto your phone, be aware,'" Holmes explained.

Robach added: "Everywhere we went, the only English they could speak was 'Watch out for your bag, be careful about your purse.' They were very aware that, that pickpocketers were everywhere and on the loose. And I was like, 'Really? I've been here and I've just never felt that threat' but yet, last night, we had an incident."

Holmes said that in the relationship, he is the one who tends to have more social awareness. While he explained that he's often on the lookout for paparazzi, while in Italy he has been keeping an eye out for pickpocketers. Robach explained that without him there on Thursday night, she would have "probably" had her belongings stolen.

The couple explained that the two of them were sitting outside for dinner at a restaurant where there were a lot of options for where people could sit. Holmes said his eyebrows were raised when a woman decided to take a seat right next to them. Robach said the woman didn't go through a concierge or a maître d', opting to walk from the street.

"It didn't alarm you though, initially," Holmes said, to which Robach responded: "I didn't know she sat down. I'll be honest, my situational awareness is not at the level yours is."

Robach said that since being in a relationship with Holmes, she has let her guard down as she knows his is always up.

"Your guard was so down last night," Holmes said with a laugh. "Because this woman goes and sits—it's hard to describe, I mean it's, two feet from us, three feet maybe, but she is sitting right next to you."

He went on to explain that he had tucked Robach's belongings, which included her jacket and purse, under the table they were sitting at in hopes it would keep them safe. The former Good Morning America 3 co-anchor said he quickly realized the woman was trying to rob them, as he noticed she was attempting to use her foot to slide their belongings from out underneath the table over to her side.

Holmes added: "It was kind of hilarious."

Eventually, the woman realized the couple had cottoned on to her plot—and she wasn't happy.

"But she got up and started banging things around like we p***ed her off," Homes said before Robach added: "She's p***ed that we now know she was trying to steal our stuff, so she gets up—you're right—she banged at least two tables and banged a, like, a barricade, as she was leaving, like, 'F y'all, you didn't let me steal your s***.' It was really funny, it was dramatic."

Despite the fact they almost had their belongings stolen, the couple said they planned on returning to the restaurant soon.

Holmes was married to attorney Marilee Fiebig for 13 years before filing for divorce. They share a daughter, Brianna. He was previously married to Amy Ferson and they have a son, Jaiden.

Robach split from her second husband, actor Andrew Shue, last year after getting married in 2010. She was previously married to Tim McIntosh, with whom she shares two daughters, Ava and Annie.
