Rob Schneider has revealed the political social media post that impacted his career.

During a recent appearance on libertarian podcast Free the People, the comedian said his message about Hillary Rodham Clinton following the 2016 presidential election cost him work.

After Donald Trump was announced as the incumbent president, Schneider took to X, then Twitter, to share his thoughts on the matter.

"I haven't seen the Democrats this p***** off since we freed the slaves," the Deuce Bigolo, Male Gigolo star wrote at the time.

During the July 12 episode of Free the People, Schneider told host Matt Kibbe that he began "working a lot less" after the tweet about Clinton.

"I did a tweet after Hillary Clinton lost that went crazy viral," the 60-year-old said. "Like 30 million, like it was just one of those things, and the Democrats just absolutely hated it of course."

Newsweek has reached out to Rob Schneider for comment via email.

For a long time, Schneider was best known as a veteran of Saturday Night Live and the star of several comedies in the late 1990s and early 2000s. However, in recent years, his political views have taken center stage.

Previously describing himself as a "lifelong Democrat," in 2013 Schneider said he'd become a Republican, backing Republican California Assemblyman Tim Donnelly for governor.

According to TheBlaze, the Emmy nominee blamed California Gov. Gavin Newsom's administration for the switch.

"The state of California is a mess, and the super-majority of Democrats is not working. I've been a lifelong Democrat and I have to switch over because it no longer serves the people of this great state," Schneider said at the time. "The last time I made a movie was seven years ago and that's because we're not being competitive."

However, during an appearance on Larry King Now in 2017, Schneider said he was an Independent voter.

"I'm an Independent but I'm definitely more conservative now," Schneider said. "I'm against any form of taking away people's rights. I think there is a push and constriction on freedom that is coming from the left now. It used to be from the right, but now it's coming from the liberals, ya know, attacking things like free speech."

In 2020, Schneider said he still "identifies as a classic liberal." In an interview with Fatherly, the actor said he still believes in "equal rights, equal pay, civil rights, gay rights," but rallied against "cancel culture."

"If you make fun of liberals, you're going to get attacked," he said. "If you make fun of conservatives, you get branded as a stereotypical Hollywood person. I try to make fun of both."

Schneider's anti-vaccine remarks have also caused controversy. The Hot Chick star previously feuded with former California Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, after the Democratic politician introduced a bill banning personal belief vaccine exemptions in schools in 2015.

Schneider is endorsing anti-vaccine Independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. in November's general election. In February, Schneider spoke at a fundraiser for the former Democrat, who originally ran against Joe Biden in the presidential primaries.

"I'm trying to find a new way to make sure Hollywood never f****** hires me again for a movie," Schneider said, suggesting his support of Kennedy had cost him further work and that most of Hollywood planned to vote for Biden.
