As with most major global events, Kamala Harris' potential run for the White House has been met with speculation that the Fox animated series The Simpsons predicted it first.

President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the presidential race on Sunday and endorsed his vice president, Harris, to fill his shoes. She said that she will seek the Democrat's nomination, and it is yet unclear if anyone will challenge her at August's Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Once it was clear Harris announced her intention to challenge former President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at November's polls, social-media users compared it to an episode of The Simpsons.

Entitled, Bart to the Future, the 24-year-old episode correctly predicted Trump's presidency when Bart was given a peek into his adult life. Set in 2030, Bart's sister, Lisa, is the first female president of the United States who inherited "quite a budget crunch from President Trump."

It has been a long-running joke on social media that The Simpsons has predicted many major events, and this episode was already flagged for its foretelling of a Trump presidency. However, people are now picking it up again for the parallels it has with Harris' presidential run. Newsweek has contacted Fox via email for comment.

A scene in The Simpsons' White House shows Lisa sitting in the Oval Office wearing a blue suit and white pearls. People pointed out how it was very similar to the outfit Harris wore to her and Biden's inauguration in 2021. The social-media users said it may be an indicator that The Simpsons could made another correct prediction should Harris win the election.

"Guys! GUYS!!! THE SIMPSONS PREDICTION IS IN EFFECT!! It's not Joever yet! #VoteBlueNoMatterWho #VoteBlue," wrote @TheGaynor79 on X, formerly Twitter.

"The Simpsons predicted Kamala Harris to be the first woman president on march 19th, 2000," posted @richardlafleurx.

And @BerwickJeff added: "The Simpsons has done it again! Here's from the 17th episode of the 11th season (in the year 2000) showing Lisa Simpson as the first female president of the United States talking about how the country is broke after President Trump. And, here's Kamala wearing the same outfit at Biden's inauguration."

Biden stepped down from the presidential race after weeks of pressure amid questions about his health and capacity to do the job, following his dismal performance in the first presidential debate against Donald Trump in June.

"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," Biden said in a statement posted on social media.

In another post, he endorsed Harris as nominee: "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it's been the best decision I've made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats—it's time to come together and beat Trump. Let's do this," Biden wrote, including a photo of him with the vice president.

Harris responded with her own statement, praising Biden for his legacy and putting the American people first.

She concluded by accepting his endorsement. "With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else.

"I am honored to have the President's endorsement, and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead.

"I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda. We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win," Harris wrote.
