It seems like just yesterday that Jelly Roll, known offstage as Jason DeFord, shared his ambitious goal to run a half-marathon. Fast forward to today, and the 39-year-old rapper-turned-country star has much more to share about his journey toward that finish line and the hurdles he's encountered along the way.

During an interview with Taste of Country Nights On Demand with Evan Paul published Monday, July 22, Jelly Roll updated fans on his fitness progress and the reality of his marathon aspirations. "I may have overshot," he confessed with a chuckle, adjusting his initial timeline to next Thanksgiving. "I woke up and walked two miles this morning and it was brutal. I was like, 'I gotta put another 11 on that, and jog?!"

Yet, this setback hasn't dampened his spirits. Jelly Roll's journey to health has been about more than just distance — it's about feeling better overall. When asked whether the "Save Me" singer has a goal weight in mind, he simply stated, "Nah, I just want to feel better."

Jelly Roll's wellness endeavor began earnestly at the start of the year when he decided to train for the 2 Bears 5K in Los Angeles. Reflecting on this milestone in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in May, he shared, "I couldn't walk a mile when I started trying to do this back in January. So the fact that we got 3-point-whatever it was, got it down, I felt really, really good about it." Jelly Roll went on to say that the run left him feeling "really motivated" when it comes to his own health journey. "I feel great, I'm a little tired," he admitted. "It was a little bit harder than I thought it was [going to be], but it's awesome, man."

Preparing for the big 5K not only challenged Jelly Roll physically but also led to a significant weight loss. "I'm probably down 70-something pounds," he told People. "I've been really kicking a**, man. I'm doing two to three miles a day, four to six days a week. I'm doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, six minutes in a cold plunge every day. I'm eating healthy right now."
