Barbra Streisand's social-media comment about Donald Trump has gone viral, with the Oscar winner accusing the former president of "bragging."

On Wednesday, the actress took to X, the social network formerly as Twitter, to praise President Joe Biden following the release of Americans in a prisoner exchange with Russia on Thursday.

"I am so gratified that President Biden worked hard to get the four Americans unlawfully detained in Russia released," the 82-year-old actress and singer wrote to her 827,000 followers.

"Remember Trump bragged they would never be released until he was President," she added.

"Barbra Streisand hasn't been relevant in 30 years," Steven Cheung, a Trump spokesperson, told Newsweek.

At the time of publishing, Streisand's post has received over 66,000 views. Newsweek has reached out to representatives for Donald Trump and Barbra Streisand for comment via email.

The Way We Were star's remarks sparked a mixed reaction online. Some agreed with Streisand, with X user Jackie B calling Biden an "amazing leader!!"

"Trump is both a loser and a specialist in failure as opposed to Biden who is a man of integrity," commented Paul Quibell-Smith.

"Biden will be remembered as one of our finest presidents," added CarolRobertson.

"Somehow I think [Trump will] try to take the credit for it," wrote George Rowe.

"Trump is definitely NOT happy. It's always about him," posted @B3man1, sharing a screenshot of Trump's reaction to the news.

The Republican politician took to Truth Social, the social-media platform he founded after being banned from Twitter in 2021, to query the prisoners' release; questions included "How many people do we get versus them?" and "Are releasing murderers, killers, or thugs?" in the swap.

However, other users criticized Streisand's stance. Although Biden announced on July 21 that he is no longer running in November's general election, several users posted that the prisoners' release was a PR stunt to win voters.

"What you're really gratified about is that President Biden worked hard to use the four Americans as political pawns in an election year," wrote @he244.

MimiMeemz said the timing of the trade is "suspicious," commenting: "My God. You lefties are so easy."

"That just means Putin wants Kamala to win," claimed @LarryGreer20. "This is not the flex you think it is Babs."

"I'm so glad you have an opinion on politics," said Jeff. "Freedom of speech shows exactly who the idiots are."

On Thursday, the largest-ever prisoner trade between Russia and the West took place. According to the White House, 24 prisoners were freed in the exchange, including the Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, and Russian American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva.

Streisand is a vocal critic of Trump. During a 2023 appearance on The Late Show, the Yentl actress told host Stephen Colbert she would leave the country if Trump were reelected.

Following the failed assassination attempt on Trump on July 17, Streisand said gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks targeted the former president because he was a "bully."

"Thomas Matthew Crooks was a registered Republican but as it has been reported he was bullied a lot in school. Trump has always been branded to be a bully. Maybe that's what motivated him," Streisand posted to X.

The 20-year-old kitchen worker open-fired on the crowd while Trump was speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The Republican was struck in his upper-right ear, before being rushed offstage by Secret Service agents. One rallygoer was killed and two were injured before Crooks was neutralized by a Secret Service sniper.

The FBI has launched an investigation into the attack, but Crooks' motive has yet to be found.
