Matt Damon apparently takes a laid back, "cool dad" approach to his daughters' dating lives.
The Interstellar star shared on "Radio Andy" Thursday, August 2, that he is completely "fine" and "cool with" his daughters bringing boys home, shattering the common stereotype of overprotective dads.
During the interview, Damon, 53, dispelled the myth of intimidating boyfriends, calling it "an old trope that people like to play up." He humorously noted that while dads might joke about it among themselves, in reality, it's not something he practices.
He went on to praise Alexia, his 24-year-old stepdaughter, for her great choice in a boyfriend whom both he and his wife, Luciana, approve of. "Dads like to joke about it amongst each other I think sometimes, but no. ... [Alexia] has got this incredible boyfriend who Lucy and I just love. We adore the guy," he said to host Andy Cohen. He also added that seeing Alexia "making those kinds of choices [is] as good as it gets."
Matt also shares daughters Isabella, 18, Gia, 15, and Stella, 13, with his wife, whom he's been married to since 2005. Reflecting on fatherhood, the Oscar winner shared that it's all about supporting his daughters and helping them build self-esteem, acknowledging that parents can't be there for every decision their children make.
Despite their preference for privacy, the Damon daughters have occasionally stepped into the spotlight to support their father. Most recently, all four daughters accompanied their parents to the premiere of The Instigators, supporting their dad's future role. Speaking with E! News on Wednesday, July 31, Damon said of his family, "We had a lot of family here tonight," the 53-year-old shared. "They normally don't show up for these things, but they all showed up tonight."
