As momentum behind Kamala Harris' presidential campaign continues to grow, a number of celebrities and high-profile figures from America's political class have offered their endorsements of her candidacy.

As this continues, some fans and commentators have speculated whether the current vice president could add a member of the British royal family to her cohort of backers in the form of Meghan Markle.

Since her split from the monarchy in 2020 with Prince Harry and their move to the U.S. with their young family, fans and critics have suggested that the duchess could make a move to become more outwardly engaged with politics.

Prior to her marriage, Meghan was already an advocate for women and girls across the political spectrum, and in 2020, together with Prince Harry, she encouraged Americans to register to vote.

The duchess has not, however, so far publicly backed a presidential candidate or revealed if she is a member of a political party.

Though during her time in the White House, Harris has not officially crossed paths with Meghan, prior to her term in office, the former attorney general of California did make public statements about the royal.

Here, Newsweek takes a look at everything Kamala Harris has said about Meghan Markle, so far.

'We Are With You'

After Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in 2018, the duke and duchess both expressed discomfort with the way they were being treated by the British tabloid press and in 2019, they launched lawsuits against publishers over alleged unlawful acts they had been the victims of.

The lawsuits were announced during the couple's royal tour of South Africa and it was during this trip that they took part in interviews for a British documentary, in which they discussed for the first time their strained relationship with the media and members of the royal family.

During a discussion with interviewer Tom Bradby, Meghan was asked if she was ok and how her mental health was given her challenging media treatment, having recently given birth to her first child.

"Thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I'm OK," she said. "But it's a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes."

Royal biographer Omid Scobie posted this clip to his X (formerly Twitter) account which was responded to by a number of accounts, including that of Harris.

"This is incredibly important. We must remember that it's a sign of strength to show emotion," she wrote.

"Meghan, we are with you."

'So Important'

Harris took to X for a second time in 2020 to post about Meghan, responding to footage of the duchess' message to the graduating class of her old high school in Los Angeles.

In her video message, Meghan addressed the socio-political climate in America at the time which had been heavily influenced by the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

The duchess said she had been nervous about what she could say on the subject, but noted that: "The only wrong thing to say, is to say nothing."

Reposting this footage, Harris added a caption to her followers which read: "'The only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.' Thank you, Meghan, for this powerful statement."
