A meme comparing Hollywood actor Brad Pitt to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has gone viral on social media.

On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris announced her decision to select Walz as her running mate ahead of the presidential election. The two will square off against former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator JD Vance in November.

Walz, who worked as a high school teacher and football coach before entering politics, said it was the honor of a lifetime to be selected as Harris' running mate.

President Joe Biden, who stepped down from his reelection efforts and endorsed the vice president last month, hailed the decision. He said the Harris-Walz ticket would be "a powerful voice for working people and America's great middle class."

The discussion has since turned to appearance over on social media, where was pointed out that Walz is younger than Pitt. While both men are aged 60, Walz was born on April 6, 1964, while Pitt was born on December 18, 1963.

Eriq Gardner, a founding partner and national correspondent at Puck News, took to X, formerly Twitter, to share side-by-side photos of the actor and the politician.

"Tim Walz is younger than Brad Pitt," read an accompanying caption on the post, which as of press time has garnered more than 8.5 million views.

The post sparked a strong reaction from X users, with a number of them saying that it was unfair to compare the men's looks, considering their vastly different lives.

Highlighting Walz's career as a teacher, one X user wrote: "Brad Pitt never: Stayed up all night making lessons, Took home a stack of papers to grade after working all day, Used part of his meager paycheck for classroom supplies, Participated in professional development during his 'time off.'"

Insisting that they weren't diminishing Pitt's life and accomplishments, they added: "I'm not saying Brad's a bad guy (he has nothing to do with the fact he's trending). Just that the two have lived completely different lives."

Abbott Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph also weighed in, writing that the photos showed the "difference between a WestCoast 60 and a MedWest 60."

Walz grew up in Nebraska and served in the Army National Guard for 24 years from the age of 17. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing Minnesota's 1st congressional district from 2007 to 2019. He was first elected as governor of Minnesota in 2018 and reelected in 2022.

Following the announcement that Walz would be running alongside Harris in this election cycle, there has been speculation over who might portray him on Saturday Night Live. The long-running NBC show has skewered an exhaustive list of politicians and newsmakers over the years.

With the 50th season of SNL set to premiere on September 28, Maya Rudolph is expected to reprise her portrayal of Harris, opposite James Austin Johnson as Trump. To date, it has not been announced who will portray vice presidential candidates Walz and Vance. In light of this, there has been fervent speculation.

Comedian Steve Martin this week weighed in on people discussing his resemblance to Walz, following the announcement the governor was joining the Harris ticket.

"I just learned that Tim Walz wants to go on the road with Marty Short," Martin quipped in a Threads post on Tuesday, referring to his longtime friend, touring pal and Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short.

While Martin was widely seen as an ideal pick for an SNL version of Walz, he later told the Los Angeles Times that Lorne Michaels, the show's creator, had already offered him the role, but he turned it down.

"I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no," Martin said of his conversation with Michaels. "I said, 'Lorne, I'm not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy.' I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses."

Martin, who turns 79 on August 14, also shared that the required time commitment throughout the season also did not appeal to him.

"It's ongoing," Martin said. "It's not like you do it once and get applause and never do it again. Again, they need a real impressionist to do that. They're gonna find somebody really, really good. I'd be struggling."
