Despite criticism in the past, Jonathan Owens is aware of how talented his wife Simone Biles is.

The 29-year-old NFL player couldn't hide his awe when speaking about Biles' balance beam routine in a clip from HBO series Hard Knocks. The clip, shared Wednesday, August 7, is from the Chicago Bears season of the series, which follows an NFL team during training camp in preparation for the upcoming season.

In the clip, Owens can be seen talking about watching Biles, 27, perform. When it comes to beam, he seems particularly impressed. "I'm just sitting there watching, especially when she's on beam. Oh, my gosh! Beam, like, trips me out," he says. "I've tried to be on it [and] I'm like, 'Babe, it's no way y'all are doing flips, just land on it.' But blind landings [and] all this type of stuff? I'm just watching [holding my breath]."

Owens was in the crowd watching and cheering on his wife as she took home three gold medals — for the team finals, individual all-around, and vault final — and a silver for individual floor exercise. The Chicago Bears safety also talked about what it's like trying to "remember her routines" while he cheers her on.

"I'm spoiled. I've seen her do it flawless so many times, you know what I mean?" Owens said, explaining that he tries to remember "the beats" so he knows "what's going on." Though Biles unfortunately did not medal for her beam performance at the 2024 Olympics — like teammate Suni Lee and two other gymnasts, she fell off the apparatus during her Paris routine — she is still the most decorated gymnast of all time.

Speaking in a press conference on Monday, August 5, Biles explained the eerie silence could have thrown off some of the gymnasts. "Beam final is always the most stressful. Usually we have musical or background noise, whatever that may be, and honestly we do better in environments when there's noise going on, because it feels most like practice," she explained.

"I don't know, it was really weird and awkward," Biles continued. "We've asked several times if we can have some music or some background noise, so I'm not really sure what happened there."

Owens first met Biles after the Olympian reached out to him on the dating app Raya in March 2020. The couple became Instagram official a few months later, and got engaged in February 2022. They first tied the knot on April 22, 2023, in an intimate courthouse wedding in Texas. The following month they had a bigger, destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas.
