Fans may have mixed feelings about Jonathan Owens, but Simone Biles knows exactly where they stand.

The 27-year-old has been known to come to her partner's defense, and things were no different when fans attacked Owens for wearing one of Biles' gold medals in an Instagram post shared on July 30.

"Witnessing history every time you step on the mat," Owens, 29, captioned the photo with his wife, adding, "Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful I was there to see it." (She later won three more.)

Fans, however, were quick to criticize the Chicago Bears player, with one TikTok user saying in a video, "Was it you, Mr. Simone Biles, who was flying through the air yesterday? Was it you who spun like a top 30 times in the air and landed without stumbling? No."

Biles shut that down, responding, "Crazy thing is, I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures. so don't ever make assumptions ... like y'all are so f**king miserable. leave us alone."

Owens first caught fans' ire after an appearance on the Pivot Podcast in December 2023. He admitted he didn't know who Biles was when she reached out to him on the dating app Raya in 2020. "I never really paid attention to gymnastics," he said.

He later noted that because she had a lot of social media followers, he thought, "Okay, she's got to be good." When the host jokingly asked if Owens considered himself "the catch" in the relationship, the football player responded by saying, "I always say that the men are the catch."

Speaking with the Call Her Daddy podcast in April 2024, Biles admitted that she was "really hurt" to see people talking about her husband in that way. She said she thought the response was "hilarious" at first, but that she eventually "broke down," wondering, "Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don't know him."

"When he did that interview, I thought everything was okay. And then I go on Twitter, and everybody's like, 'Divorce this man. He's mean,'" the Olympian recalled. "First of all, that interview had nothing to do with me. It was all for him, so I think they were mad that he didn't include me... but he has to have his moments, too."

By May 2024, Biles felt she had to take to Instagram to make it clear to fans that she was not having any more criticism of her marriage. "I'm going to quickly address this, the joke was never a joke! Y'all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship & my husband," she wrote on her Stories.

"So I'm gonna go ahead and say this one time. Respectfully, f**k off & if you keep commenting or tweeting at me I'm just going to block you. Simple as that," she finished, and her husband reshared the Story, adding, "Being fake mad about people y'all don't know from a can of paint is weirdo behavior."

Biles has continued to show her support for her beau in social media posts, as has Owens. In May 2024, she shared a photo of she and Owens kissing at one of her competitions, with the caption, "my whole heart. the best supporter, I couldn't ask for a better husband."

For his part, the first pinned post on Owens' Instagram account is a slideshow from the pair's wedding, and in one of the photos he can be seen getting emotional looking at his beautiful bride.

He also got special permission to miss part of training camp to cheer her on in Paris, where he celebrated with her family, and shared a steady stream of posts praising her performance with comments like, "You accomplish whatever you set your mind to, and do it with so much grace. 9 time Olympic medalist and counting!!!! So proud to be your husband."
