Fans think they’ve spotted a Kamala Harris-shaped silhouette in a post about Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, leading to speculation that the pop superstar is finally backing Kamala Harris for president.

The pictures from Siwft’s three consecutive nights in Warsaw were posted on Instagram, and included a snap of the singer onstage playing guitar, with a silhouette of what looks like the Democratic Party's nominee.

The picture prompted speculation that Swift was about to pick her candidate for November's election, with social media users interpreting this as a sly nod to Harris.

One said: "[Swift] is lowkey endorsing @KamalaHarris on @instagram. No public statement yet, besides this pic", while another cheered: “Taylor Swift just low key endorsed Kamala Harris and MAGA is losing their minds.”

However, this all seems to be wishful thinking on behalf of Swifties and Harris fans, as a source close to Swift, quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, said that the silhouette is one of Swift's background singers onstage.

The very easily debunked “soft launch” of Swift’s support of Harris highlights to what extent Swifties are obsessed with decoding what they consider to be Easter eggs, believing that every detail is a coded message. It also goes to show that Swifties are keen for their idol to take a stand and make her allegiances clear, and it's no surprise that fans of Harris are eagerly waiting for some sign from the singer.

After breaking her years of political silence in 2018 to back Democrat candidates in the US midterm elections and endorsing President Biden in 2020 through a video message on her Instagram, a Taylor Swift endorsement could prove crucial.

When Taylor speaks, her fans listen -  with a single media post proving how she can influence even the world of politics.

For instance, in September last year, the singer posted a short message on Instagram encouraging her 272 million followers to register to vote. Afterward, the website she directed her fans to - the nonpartisan nonprofit Vote.org - reported a 1,226% jump in participation in the hour after the post. The number of 18-year-olds registered was more than double 2022's figures.

And it’s not just the US – this year, Brussels asked Swift to mobilise young voters ahead of the elections to the European Parliament.

The backing of someone like Swift could prove instrumental for Democrats and could provide the Harris-Walz ticket with yet another boost.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has previously made public appeals for Swift to promote the Democrats, saying that Swift’s influence will have “a profoundly powerful impact on the 2024 US presidential election.”

“What she was able to accomplish just in getting young people activated to consider that they have a voice and that they should have a choice in the next election, I think, is profoundly powerful,” he told TMZ.

Conservatives think so too, as they have been scrambling to discredit, blast, even threaten the pop star – with some going so far as to peddle conspiracy theories and promising a “holy war” should Swift endorse the Democratic ticket.

The recent set of pictures even made it to Fox News, where a pundit stated “leave politics out of entertainment” whilst complaining about why a backup dancer would be wearing a suit.

Swift is widely regarded as a liberal and has previously spoken out about being pro-choice, pro-LGBTQ+ rights and pro-gun control, so it would be a surprise if she did not lean towards Harris.

She is currently on her European leg of the globally successful and record-breaking Eras Tour, with five more dates planned in London (15, 16, 17, 19, 20 August) before finally finishing the tour in Canada at the end of the year.

On Wednesday, three concerts in Vienna were cancelled after Austrian officials announced the arrests of two men accused of plotting a terrorist attack. Swift was supposed to be playing at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion tonight, tomorrow and Saturday, leaving her Austrian fans distraught.

The cancellation comes after the death of three children attending a dance class inspired by her music in Southport, UK, last week. Swift said she was "completely in shock" over the atrocity.

There are also persistent rumours that Swift could be heading to Paris on Sunday for the closing ceremony of the Olympics, joining the likes of AIR, Phoenix and Tom Cruise, who are also rumoured to be taking part in the closing show.
