John Legend has apologized to his fans after his show was "rudely interrupted" by a storm.
The John Legend and Cleveland Orchestra concert was forced to cancel mid-performance on Thursday night at Blossom Music Center—an outdoor amphitheater in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio—due to severe weather, including heavy rain and lightning. According to the Akron Beacon Journal, concertgoers attempted to wait out the storm and the power at the venue flickered on and off.
At approximately 7.45 p.m., fans with lawn seats were instructed to seek cover in their cars or a nearby restroom, while those with pavilion seats were asked to stay undercover, according to the journal. A flash flood warning was issued for the area at 9:15 p.m. and at 9.30 p.m., the venue canceled the show.
Legend took to his Instagram account late on Thursday night to address the cancellation. Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Legend for comment on Friday.
"Scenes from the show in Northern Ohio before Mother Nature so rudely interrupted. [anguished emojis] So sorry about tonight. We'll come back and try again when we can!" he wrote alongside three photos of the performance that were taken on the night.
Instagram users thanked the singer for the short and sweet concert, with one person writing: "Bridge Over Troubled Water being sung in the downpour was epic."
"We loved your short but sweet concert. Some of your darling family were sitting in front of us. Your song dedicated to your grandmother brought two of them to tears. They were so sweet. Please come back to us in Cleveland soon. Waited months for this, can't wait to hear more of the Legend," said another.
"It was a brilliant four songs! Haha," someone else wrote.
A fourth person added: "So sad we couldn't experience the rest of the show! [crying emojis] PLEASE COME BACK!"
The singer had used Instagram earlier in the night to update his fans, posting a video to his story in which he explained that he and the other performers had been waiting backstage to see if they could continue the show.
"We've just been told we cannot continue the show tonight," Legend said. "I am so sorry. I wanted to finish the show tonight. I have a lot of family and friends here, and I wanted to give the good people of Northern Ohio a great show, and I am so sorry. We will figure out a way to make it up to you as soon as we can."
On Wednesday night Legend's performance in Saratoga Springs went without a hitch.
"Thank you to everyone who spent the night with me, the band and the amazing Philadelphia Orchestra in Saratoga Springs last night! A beautiful experience!" he posted on Instagram.
