Scott Peterson's mistress will speak for the first time in nearly two decades in an upcoming Netflix documentary about his conviction for killing his pregnant wife on Christmas Eve 2002.

Laci Peterson, 27, went missing from her Modesto, California, home while eight months pregnant on December 24, 2002.

Scott Peterson, 51, who is now serving life in prison without parole, reported her missing, claiming he returned from a fishing trip on Christmas Eve Day to find their dog alone in the backyard with its leash still on.

On April 14, 2003, Laci Peterson's body washed ashore on Brooks Island where he had been fishing in his newly purchased boat. Their unborn son, Conner, was discovered a mile from his mother the day prior.

Amber Frey, who had an affair with Scott Peterson in the months leading up to his wife's death, will discuss her relationship with him in the Netflix documentary American Murder: Laci Peterson which hits the platform on August 14. Frey will lay out the timeline of when they were together and will speak on how she was a victim of Scott Peterson's deceptions in a story that captured national attention.

Frey called the police back in 2002 and told them she had a relationship with Scott Peterson after seeing his wife's case on the news. She previously claimed Scott Peterson told her he was single during their relationship but then on December 9 — the same day he bought the boat — told her he was married, but his wife had died.

Secretly recorded phone calls between Frey and Scott Peterson suggest that he wanted a future with her, which gave police a possible motive behind killing his wife. Laci Peterson's mom, Sharon Rocha, is also speaking out in the Netflix documentary for the first time since her daughter's death. She claims Scott Peterson originally did not want to have a child, which could serve as another motive.

Netlfix says Rocha, agreed to an in-depth interview for the series, offering fresh insight into her loss and the grief she carries to this day.

"Sharon did press when Laci went missing, but she's never sat down to do an interview for a documentary," said documentary director Skye Borgman. "It's not easy, after 20 years, to sit down in front of a camera. But we wanted this to be about Laci, to bring her back to people's consciousness. Sharon wanted to talk about Laci's spirit, and about the dragonflies that Laci loved. How Laci is still with them, and how Conner — Laci's unborn son — is still with them."

Scott Peterson reportedly washed his clothes, ate pizza, and showered before informing anyone, including police, that his wife was missing. He eventually told police he was golfing on Christmas Eve, but revealed to his neighbor that he was fishing out of Berkeley Marina, which led to the discovery of his wife and son's bodies.

He was arrested on the day Laci Peterson's body was found nearly 30 miles from the Mexican border. He was driving a car full of supplies and almost $15,000 in cash.

Scott's death sentence was overturned in 2020, and he is currently serving a life sentence without parole. The Los Angeles Innocence Project claims he was found guilty due to circumstantial evidence and is arguing that DNA evidence went ignored. The organization is submitting 1,000 pages of court documents to call for a new trial.

American Murder: Laci Peterson premieres on Netflix on Aug. 14.
