Simon Cowell's ex Sinitta is walking back comments she made suggesting the former American Idol judge had secretly tied the knot with Lauren Silverman.

Speaking with Woman's Magazine, Sinitta, 60, was asked if Cowell, 64, and his fiancée, 47 — who have been engaged since 2021 — had set a wedding date. "Oh, are they not married yet?" Sinitta told the publication, as reported by The Sun. "I'm not saying anything, but I'm sure they are married. I call her Mrs. Cowell anyway, so they may as well be."

However, the British-American singer clarified her remarks in an interview with the New York Post, published on Tuesday, August 13. "When asked, I playfully responded by pretending to be confused and joked, 'Wait, aren't they already married? I'm pretty sure they are?'" she told the publication.

"My intention was to deflect the question with humor, not to suggest that they had secretly married," she said, adding, "To be clear, if they had married in private and I were aware of it, I would respect their privacy and not disclose such information."

She also posted a statement on her Instagram, captioning it with the hashtag "fake news." In her statement, she requested that she not be asked about Cowell's wedding or plans for future children.

"I am chatty and enjoy having fun during conversations, but this comment has mistakenly created FAKE NEWS," she posted. Sinitta dated Cowell for two years, from 1982 to 1984, and the pair have since remained friends.

The America's Got Talent judge first met Silverman in Barbados in 2004, when she was still married to his then-friend, Andrew. By May 2012, rumors that Cowell and Silverman were having an affair began to swirl. They initially denied rumors, but in July 2013, it was revealed that the pair were expecting a child together.

They welcomed their son Eric Philip Cowell on February 14, 2014. Cowell and Silverman became Instagram official in February 2016, and then on December 24, 2021, Cowell proposed to Silverman during a family vacation in Barbados.

Most recently, the couple spoke with People about wedding planning in April 2023, with Cowell saying it has been "easy."
