Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher has revealed that Matthew Perry privately messaged her about their similar experiences on dating app Hinge, more than a year before the actor's sudden death.

In October 2023, Perry was found dead at his home at the age of 54. In December of that year, it was determined that his death was caused by the acute effects of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic used as a treatment for depression and pain management.

Perry's Friends co-stars led a chorus of celebrities in paying tribute to the actor, with many sharing anecdotes about the times they spent with him.

In a recently published interview with U.K. newspaper The Telegraph, Hatcher—who co-starred with Perry in a CBS revival of classic sitcom The Odd Couple—revealed an interaction she and the actor had about their experiences with Hinge.

Hatcher, 59, told the publication that she and Perry "maintained a relationship over the years," which led to them sharing messages about getting booted off the dating app.

She said: "We would text each other a few times a year and, well, I've never told anybody this story but it was probably a year before he died that I got thrown off of the dating app Hinge because the app thought I was pretending to be myself.

"I posted about that on Twitter and I got a text from Matthew. He said: 'I got kicked off of Hinge too! What the heck are both of us doing on Hinge anyway?' I thought: Yeah! What are we doing there?!"

During an appearance on HSN's Getting Grilled With Curtis Stone back in January, Hatcher discussed how she had turned to Hinge in the hope of meeting new people. Hatcher revealed she had filed a complaint to Hinge and requested a refund.

On December 10, 2021, the Hinge team issued a public apology to Hatcher via X, formerly Twitter, in a message that read, in part: "We're so sorry, Teri! Some people thought you were too good to be true."

Hatcher was further advised to email the company with the subject line "Jerry Missed Out," as the Hinge team vowed to "make this right."

In 2022, Hinge implemented a "Selfie Verification" feature, in which subscribers can prove they're who they say they are with a video selfie. The footage is then matched with the subscriber's face in one of their profile photos.

Speaking on Getting Grilled earlier this year, Hatcher suggested that she has since given up on dating apps altogether, while describing her state of being as "happy."

"I have a really full life, a really busy life," she said. "I have beautiful friends. It's fine: I don't need a man. I have a cat."

Meanwhile, in her most recent interview with The Telegraph, Hatcher revealed that she has taken to watching episodes of classic sitcom Friends following Perry's death.

"I think that man was just brilliant, a comedic genius," she said. "He has gone way too soon and he was always wonderful to work with. We had this cool intermittent, supportive relationship behind the scenes so I hope he always knew that I was there for him."
