Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher has revealed what is was like to go viral in the early days of the internet.

The actress became a household name in the 1990s playing the legendary comic book character, Lois Lane, in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. She starred opposite Dean Cain's Superman.

At the height of the show's fame in 1995, Hatcher posed for a series of sultry promotional photos, including posing naked wearing nothing but Superman's iconic red cape.

The photo caused a stir and was the most downloaded photo at the time, getting thousands of downloads per month.

Hatcher has now addressed the photo in a fan Q&A published by The Guardian.

One reader asked: "What are your memories of the time the picture of you naked wrapped in a Superman cape was reportedly the most downloaded image on the internet?"

"I broke the internet when we still had dial-up. I don't credit myself with being so fabulous," Hatcher replied.

"I do remember the photoshoot, which was to promote the TV show. It took all day. I was wearing a white blouse and pencil skirt because Lois is a reporter from the Daily Planet, with the cape wrapped over."

She added: "It wasn't until the last take of the day that someone said: 'Could we try the cape without the blouse?' I thought: 'What does that imply? Why would Lois Lane be naked under the cape?' We only did it as a lark, but the result was evocative. Now I'm so much older, I still feel proud of it."

Hatcher was also asked about her snooker-playing abilities in the Q&A because in the U.K. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman originally aired after Big Break, a TV game show based around the table sport.

"I'm not familiar with this show, but snooker is like pool, right? I was an only child. My dad was an electrical engineer, so the things I became good at were bowling, golf and pool because they included angles, speed and hand-to-eye-coordination. So I do understand the theory of a bank shot, and I have pulled off one once or twice. Could I beat you at pool? It depends on how much we are drinking," she replied

Hatcher recently made headlines when she revealed she and late Friends actor had both been kicked off the dating app Hinge.

The pair co-starred in the CBS revival of classic sitcom The Odd Couple and she told U.K. newspaper The Telegraph all about their dating app experiences.

"We would text each other a few times a year and, well, I've never told anybody this story but it was probably a year before he died that I got thrown off of the dating app Hinge because the app thought I was pretending to be myself," she said.

"I posted about that on Twitter and I got a text from Matthew. He said: 'I got kicked off of Hinge too! What the heck are both of us doing on Hinge anyway?' I thought: Yeah! What are we doing there?!"

Perry was found dead at his home at the age of 54 in October 2023. It was determined that his death was caused by the acute effects of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic used as a treatment for depression and pain management.
