Disney made headlines this week when it announced an "unprecedented" level of developments at its parks, including its largest land expansion in Orlando.

The company leaned into founder Walt Disney's ethos that "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world" as part of its reasoning for the monumental overhaul.

Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D'Amaro revealed the slate of projects including new attractions and lands at the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Saturday.

"Only Disney can create the kind of timeless experiences that entertain and inspire people of all ages, across generations and geographies," D'Amaro said. "At Disney Experiences, we invest in stories that stand the test of time and bring them to life in ways that surprise our guests and fans every day."

The expansion is part of Disney's decision to heavily invest in its Experiences department, which consists of parks, hotels and cruises, as a means of bolstering its fledgling Disney+ streaming service and recent disappointing box office returns.

Disney has six theme park resorts, located in Florida, California, France, Japan, Hong Kong and China.

Here is the list of recently announced new attractions.

Villains Land

Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, will bring to life new and classic stories in a land based on Disney villains.

While more details are coming, this new land is underway with two new attractions planned as well as dining, shopping and other features.

Cars

Based on the series of animated films, this is also making its way into the Magic Kingdom. In a reimagined section of Frontierland, guests will head off into the wilderness with two new Cars attractions, one that will be an off-road thrilling rally race, the other a family-friendly attraction.

Cars is one of Disney's most popular franchises, making $1.4 billion at the global box office and the new attraction will join Radiator Springs at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

Esperanza, Encanto, and the Exciting Adventures of Indiana Jones

The Orlando park is also getting a new land within its Animal Kingdom and will take guests on adventures in Tropical Americas.

Entering through the Pueblo Esperanza, a fictional village in heart of the rainforest and then in the outskirts of the town, an adventure awaits with iconic archaeologist Indiana Jones. The attraction takes place inside a mysterious Maya temple and will be an all-new adventure, which Disney has promised will be unlike any of the existing Indiana Jones attractions around the world.

The Tropical Americas land will also have a new attraction based on animated film Encanto. It will be the first ride-through attraction of the film for a Disney park and takes place inside Casita on the day after young Antonio receives his gift of communicating with animals.

Tropical Americas is set to open in 2027.

Monsters, Inc.

Not to be confused with the theme park in California, Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World is getting a new land which will allow guests to explore the Laugh Factory and will include the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. It will mimic the famous flying doors seen in the Monster, Inc. movies.

"The power of friendship and laughter is at the heart of so many Disney stories—especially Monsters, Inc," D'Amaro said at D23. "Now we're giving fans a whole new way to experience this world in a Disney theme park and connect with the characters they love."

Avengers

Disneyland will have its Avengers Campus double in size as part of its expansion and will feature two new Marvel-themed attractions. The first is a ride called Avengers Infinity Defense in which riders will battle King Thanos who has stolen the technology which allows the Avengers to jump between worlds.

The other new attraction will see Robert Downey, Jr. reprise his role as Iron Man in the Stark Flight Lab, where riders will sit in two-person pods and deploy to a test station. The pods are then controlled by a robot arm which grabs the pod and whirls it around in a simulated flight.

Avatar

The box-office smash Avatar: The Way of Water and upcoming Avatar films have inspired an attraction at Disneyland.

It will differ from the Avatar Land at Disney World in Florida and feature a new boat ride through the world of Pandora.
