Hollywood star Adam Sandler has received health advice from his old friend about how to get fit and stay healthy.

The comedian appeared on Joe Rogan's Spotify podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, where he opened about dropping the ball on his fitness regimen and how he did not love his body.

Rogan, who is known to be fit and a fan of martial arts, advised the Little Nicky star to start getting healthy again. He added that it should be easy for Sandler because "you got money."

"When I was 18 to 23, I hid it so hard," Sandler said. Rogan added that the actor "looked good during the Zohan movie," referring to the 2008 film You Don't Mess With the Zohan, where Sandler played an Israeli counterterrorist commando turned hairdresser.

"You looked pretty good, [actually] really good," Rogan added, with Sandler telling him it was "as good as I can get." He said that he might have to once again recruit the trainer that got him fit for the Zohan movie.

"But now it's f***** rough. My kids, one daughter Sadie's always saying, 'Dad, get the train from the Zohan. Why would you ever give that up? Why did you stop?'" Sandler said, adding he tells his daughter that "it's a lot of work."

"She's right about everything [but] I don't promise her. I go, 'Let me think about that; that's a good idea.'"

Rogan then shared his advice, with Sandler saying, "The whole thing is just not overdoing it in the beginning. Start slow, where it's maintainable, and then slowly build up.

"So you give yourself new goals. And the thing is people try to go too hard... The whole key is just give your body enough where it's pushing it, but it's not exhausted."

Rogan added: "You're not breaking your body down. You're just strengthening it slowly... over time, you slowly start to morph your body back into a good condition.

"Everybody just goes too hard, they try to go too crazy. It needs to be sustainable."

Rogan talked about the concept of cheat days where you aim to eat clean a certain amount of time per week and then have allocated days to eat whatever you want and then slowly scale down on the cheat days as you get fitter.

"I gotta stop," Sandler added of his tendency not to eat well, to which Rogan added, "Yeah, if you really want to be serious about it, just hire somebody."

"You got money," Rogan said.

Sandler agreed and added: "I got the best guy, the guy who did me for the Zohan, and I love him. It's just that I see him and I love him so much that I go, 'Let's keep this a friendship. I don't want it to ruin the friendship.'"

But then Sandler earned Rogan's praise when he said that he played basketball up to five times a week and "that keeps me OK."

"I [still] don't want to take my shirt off, but I play maybe four or five times a week where I get out there," Sandler said.

Rogan replied: "That's great; that's very good. And that's the key. If you could do find something that you really enjoyed doing, then that's the best."
