Fans are making Clueless jokes after Alicia Silverstone posted an unusual TikTok in which she took a bite of what some think is a form of deadly nightshade. In addition to receiving more than 9,000 comments on TikTok, the video reached viral fame on X (formerly known as Twitter), when a journalist shared the clip.

"OK, I've discovered something that I can't figure out what it is and I need your help," the actress told her followers in a TikTok video on August 19. She then revealed that she'd found a fruit "on the sidewalk" that she and her companions thought might be "a tomato." Pointing the camera to the bushes that the fruit had clearly fallen off of, she expressed skepticism. "It's definitely not because look at these leaves!" The Babysitters' Club actress then bites into the fruit, musing, "I don't think you're supposed to eat this, but it tastes like a pepper."

Fans were quick to affirm that Alicia was right in her assumption that she was not "supposed" to eat the fruit. One amateur botanist identified the plant on TikTok: "Jerusalem Cherry... They are poisonous 😬"

The journalist, for their part, wrote via X: "This tiktok of a confused alicia silverstone eating a fruit off a bush from someone's front yard in london blissfully unaware that it's actually a very poisonous form of deadly nightshade has absolutely killed me. she's not posted since either rip girl you were great in clueless."

A few fans are concerned that they hadn't yet heard an update from Silverstone. "Okay it is 7am in England, can you give us an update PLEASE. just a quick 'hey I'm okay!" 🥲'" a TikTok follower pleaded.

An X user pointed out, "quick google makes clear she's not going to die she only took a bite. but it can make you quite sick. once again, probably shouldn't need to say this to grown adults... don't eat strange looking plants from people's gardens."

A TikTok user took a generous view of the actress's decision, saying: "eating random stuff from bushes when you don't know what it is, is a level of non anxiety that I can only aspire to."

Some fans are taking a slightly politicized approach to the story, citing Silverstone's history of speaking out against vaccines. One shared a version of the famous Drake meme, in which Silverstone appeared to reject "life-saving vaccines" while enthusiastically accepting "poisonous street fruit."

Silverstone has not yet updated followers since eating the fruit.
