As Michelle Obama delivered her rousing speech at the Democratic Nation Convention on Tuesday, actor Kerry Washington wrote on social media that she was "smiling while weeping" as she watched the former first lady.

While addressing the convention audience at the packed United Center in Chicago, Michelle Obama took aim at Republican nominee Donald Trump, whom she accused of "going small." Since President Joe Biden announced in July that he would not be seeking reelection, Donald Trump is now set to face Vice President Kamala Harris at the polls in November.

Michelle Obama, one of the most popular voices in the Democratic Party, praised Harris as "one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of the presidency" and "more than ready for this moment."

Washington was among numerous celebrities to take to X, formerly Twitter, to express support for Michelle Obama's speech, in which she drew parallels between Donald Trump's attacks on Harris, who is of Jamaican and Indian heritage, and the lies he spread about herself and her husband, former President Barack Obama.

"For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us," the former first lady said. "His limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful people who happened to be Black."

The former first lady then hit back at the Republican's comment in a June debate that migrants were taking jobs from Black people.

"Who's going to tell him that the job he's currently seeking might just be one of those 'Black jobs'?" she said. "It's his same old con: doubling down on ugly, misogynistic, racist lies as a substitute for real ideas and solutions that will actually make people's lives better."

As footage of the speech was shared on X, Washington commented: "How does she have me smiling while weeping?!. @MichelleObama you are an extraordinary human being."

TV personality Andy Cohen also showed his appreciation for Michelle Obama's speech, writing, "YES MICHELLE!!!!!!!!!"

The Real Housewives executive producer ended his two-word post with several U.S. flag emoji.

Actor and singer Bette Midler, a frequent critic of Donald Trump, highlighted one of the lines Michelle Obama had fired at the former president.

"Who's going to tell him that the job he's running for might be one of those 'black jobs'?" the Down and Out in Beverly Hills star wrote on X.

WNBA rookie and Chicago Sky power forward Angel Reese added her voice to the chorus praising Michelle Obama, writing, "MICHELLE SAID WHAT SHE SAID."

On the same night that the former first lady addressed the crowd at the Democratic National Convention, Barack Obama also delivered a speech. In a post on X, Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter, who is known to be politically outspoken, cited one of the former president's lines.

"We've seen that movie before. We all know that the sequel is usually worse," she wrote, quoting Barack Obama's comments about the possibility of Donald Trump being reelected. Carter added, "Vote Kamala and avoid the Troll 2 of presidencies."

Ben Rhodes, who wrote speeches for Barack Obama and advised him on national security from 2007 to 2017, shared glowing words for the former president and his wife.

"The Obamas have a singular ability to articulate a progressive patriotism that is simultaneously inclusive and uncompromising about core values," he commented.

Mary Trump, Donald Trump's estranged niece, has been a frequent critic of her uncle, and she shared a pair of clips from Michelle Obama's speech on X.

"Every word of this. #DemocratsDeliver24," she captioned one of the clips, in which the former first lady said, "No one has the monopoly on what it means to be an American."

In the other clip shared by Mary Trump, Michelle Obama can be seen quoting Harris' mother as saying: "Don't just sit around and complain. Do something."

Echoing the chant of the convention crowd, Mary Trump wrote in the video's caption, "DO SOMETHING."

Michelle Obama's speech ended with a call for Democrats to not be their "own worst enemies" and to do everything possible to get Harris elected in November.

"We only have two and a half months, y'all, to get this done—only 11 weeks to make sure every single person we know is registered and has a voting plan," she said.

"So we cannot afford for anyone … to sit on their hands and wait to be called. Don't complain if no one from the campaign has specifically reached out to ask you for your support. There is simply no time for that kind of foolishness. You know what you need to do," Michelle Obama said, adding, "Our fate is in our hands."
