Actor Michael Madsen has spoken out via his attorney about his domestic battery charge, after he was taken into custody by police over the weekend.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, police officers responded to reports of a "family disturbance" incident in Malibu, California, shortly before midnight on August 18.

Per law enforcement, officers responded after a woman alleged that "her husband pushed her and locked her out of their residence." Madsen and his wife, DeAnna Madsen, separated following the 2022 suicide death of their son Hudson, a U.S. Army sergeant who served in Afghanistan.

Following his arrest, Michael Madsen was released from custody on a $20,000 bond, with the sheriff's department saying in a statement that the investigation is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Van Nuys Superior Court House for filing.

Newsweek has contacted a representative of Michael Madsen via email for comment.

Michael Madsen—who is famed for his roles in a range of Quentin Tarantino movies, including Reservoir Dogs and The Hateful Eight—has now spoken out via his longtime attorney Perry Wander.

According to Wander, DeAnna Madsen "broke into" Michael Madsen's Malibu home. "He confronted her and asked her to leave," The Hollywood Reporter quotes Perry as saying, adding that it "has been an ongoing problem."

"Michael has shown immense compassion and restraint during this period towards his estranged wife," the attorney continued in the statement. "He's definitely not guilty of domestic violence."

The Madsens, who tied the knot in 1996, separated after the death of their 26-year-old son, Hudson, who was a godson of filmmaker Tarantino. They also have an 18-year-old son, Luke, who continues to live at his father's house.

Discussing his elder son's death, Madsen told the Los Angeles Times in a statement: "I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy—my last text from him was 'I love you dad.'"

"I didn't see any signs of depression. It's so tragic and sad. I'm just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened," he added.

At the time, the actor said that his late son had recently completed his first tour in the U.S. Army and was a sergeant stationed in Hawaii.

"He had typical life challenges that people have with finances, but he wanted a family," Michael Madsen added of his son, who was married at the time of his death. "He was looking towards his future, so it's [sic] mind blowing. I just can't grasp what happened."
