Saturday Night Live fans are hoping Kristen Wiig returns to the show after a video of Tim Walz's wife has gone viral online.

Gwen Walz had a strong reaction to Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Tuesday. The former United States president praised the flannel shirts of Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, during the event.

"I love this guy. Tim is the kind of person who should be in politics," Obama said. "You can tell those flannel shirts he wears don't come from some political consultant. They come from his closet, and they have been through some stuff."

As the crowd erupted into cheers, the camera panned to Gwen Walz clapping and appearing to say, "So true."

The video has been making the rounds on X, formerly Twitter, with many fans urging Wiig to play the role of Gwen Walz on SNL.

"Kristen Wiig, boy do I have a job for you come Saturday nights," X user @stillonzoloft wrote above the clip shared from @stridinstrider's account. At the time of publication, the post had been viewed more than 1.4 million times with over 30,000 likes.

"Gwen Walz's reaction to Obama's joke about Tim's flannel shirts is everything and I can't wait for Kristen Wiig to play her on SNL," fellow X user @_natemorris said in a separate viral post.

"Lorne Michaels better be calling Kristen Wiig," @ShawnReynolds_ said, referring to SNL's creator and producer.

"Social media overwhelmingly is casting Kristen Wiig as Gwen Walz. Make it so, @nbcsnl," @juliehinds added, tagging the show's official X account.

"Kristen Wiig clear your schedule this fall for SNL," @SoWhat_WhoCares wrote.

"If SNL doesn't cast Kristen Wiig to play Gwen Walz, I may lose my will to live," @socflyny commented.

"God I hope Kristen Wiig shows up to play Gwen Walz. So-so much," @thatonekimgirl said.

Wiig was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2005 to 2012. Her final episode aired on May 19, 2012—which was actor Andy Samberg's last show too. In April 2024, the Bridesmaids star returned to the SNL stage as a host for the fifth time.

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March, Wiig recalled chipping her tooth at the after-party for her final show.

"I really partied, guys. Well, I was drinking a beer. And I had the bottle, and someone elbowed the bottle. And I... I know. But I didn't care," she told viewers.

"I was like, 'Oh, well,'" the 12-time Emmy award nominee recalled. "And then I woke up the next day and I was, like, 'Wait a minute. Something's sharp in my mouth.'"

Kamala Harris chose Minnesota governor Tim Walz to be her running mate in the 2024 presidential election. The DNC comes about one month after president Joe Biden announced he was stopping his reelection campaign and endorsing Harris.

"It is the honor of a lifetime to join @kamalaharris in this campaign. I'm all in," Walz said on X on August 6 following news of Harris' decision. "Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what's possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let's get this done, folks! Join us."
