David Beckham "p***** off" director of his self-titled Netflix documentary, Fisher Stevens, by interrupting an interview with his wife Victoria.

The moment between the soccer legend and his Spice Girls star spouse quickly became iconic following the documentary's release last year.

Now, as part of Variety's Making a Scene series, Succession actor Stevens has recalled how the scene came about, admitting he wasn't happy with soccer star Beckham, 49.

The fashion designer had been discussing her upbringing while filming at the couple's home, when her husband—who they thought was out—appeared.

After she says they were both from "working class" families, he repeatedly tells her to "be honest."

He then states: "One answer. What car did your dad drive you to school in?" and, after much reluctance, she says: "In the '80s my dad had a Rolls Royce."

Stevens was "mortified" by what happened, telling the aforementioned publication: "I'm going, 'What the f*** is David doing here?' She was very embarrassed and nervous, because clearly he's been watching.

"... I said, 'What is he doing here, we had a deal'."

He continued: "I said, 'OK, you got to go man'... he did leave, I made sure. I didn't start again till I heard the door close.

"This interview changed everything, so it was kind of great he was there in a way and it was a great moment for the movie clearly, but it p***** me off."

Beckham editor Michael Harte agreed, saying what happened "totally flipped the scene on it's head" but that it was "one of the most honest scenes" in the four-part special.

"You get a true insight into their relationship and the way they interact," he said, but suggested the biggest challenge was where to include the "incredible" interaction.

Stevens detailed how "everything changed" afterwards in a positive way in terms of future scenes with Victoria.

He also noted that he and father-of-four Beckham had a "good rapport," as jokes between them were shown on screen in the clip which has been watched more than 10,000 times.

Newsweek has contacted representatives for David Beckham and Fisher Stevens via email for further comment.

The former previously spoke about the incident that became a viral meme to The Hollywood Reporter, confirming Stevens was "very angry with me over that."

The interview comes just weeks after the documentary received five nominations at the Emmy Awards 2024.

It is up for Best Documentary or Nonfiction Series, going up against Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV, STAX: Soulsville U.S.A., Telemarketers and The Jinx - Part Two.

It could also win awards for Outstanding Cinematography For A Nonfiction Program, Outstanding Directing For A Documentary/Nonfiction Program, Outstanding Picture Editing and Outstanding Music Composition.
