Roseanne Barr has accused Tim Walz of hating "billionaires that love America" in a social-media post.

Walz, the governor of Minnesota and former high-school teacher and coach, formally accepted the vice presidential nomination with a keynote address at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night.

Walz walked onto the stage to a standing ovation as thousands of convention goers held up cutouts of his face and signs that read "Coach Walz." While he has been a hit among the Democrats, various outspoken Republicans have shared their criticisms of the politician, including Barr.

Barr, a conservative supporter of Trump, reshared a post from Gabe Kaminsky. The investigative reporter at the Washington Examiner shared two photos of Walz with Alex Soros, an investor and philanthropist who is one of the five children of billionaire George Soros.

"Tim Walz, who I am reliably told hates billionaires, huddles with Alex Soros at the DNC," Kaminsky captioned the photos, to which Barr added: "They don't hate billionaires- they hate billionaires that love America."

Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Barr and contacted Walz via the Office of Governor Tim Walz & Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan website for comment on Friday.

At the time of writing, Barr's post had been viewed more than 325,000 times.

Barr's post refers to the fact that various Democratic politicians have said they want to further tax the very wealthy.

During his 2024 State of the Union address in March, Biden vowed to raise taxes on billionaires to a minimum rate of 25 percent, joking about the "great sacrifices" that billionaires are currently making by paying an average of 8.2 percent.

In the same month, it was reported that Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts was leading a group of progressive lawmakers' efforts to increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans, a move that she has long been advocating for.

The measure, the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act, would introduce a 2 percent annual tax on the net worth of households and trusts between $50 million and $1 billion, and a 1 percent annual surtax on the net worth of households and trusts above $1 billion, adding up to an overall 3 percent tax.

According to Warren, the tax increase would impact only the wealthiest 100,000 households in the country. That's about 0.05 percent of the United States population, according to a news release shared by Representative Pramila Jayapal of Washington. She introduced the bill in the House along with Representative Brendan F. Boyle of Pennsylvania.

These days, Barr's political opinions are a long way away from where they once were. She had been a staunch progressive earlier in her career, once protesting at an Occupy Wall Street rally and running for president first for the Green Party and later the Peace and Freedom Party. However, in 2016, the comedian voted for Trump and has publicly supported him ever since.

When asked in December by Newsweek why, in the face of mounting scrutiny and backlash, Barr continues to publicly share her political takes, the comedian said: "It's important for me to keep speaking because I can't let the f****** win. That's why."
