The public is having mixed reactions to professional wrestler Ronda Rousey's apology regarding a conspiracy theory video the 37-year-old shared in 2013 regarding the Sandy Hook school shooting.

On Friday, August 23, the actress issued a lengthy statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. The former UFC champion attempted to take ownership of her actions and expressed deep regret.

"I apologize that this came 11 years too late, but to those affected by the Sandy Hook massacre, from the bottom of my heart and depth of my soul I am so sorry for the hurt I caused," Rousey shared. "I can't even begin to imagine the pain you've endured and words cannot describe how thoroughly remorseful and ashamed I am of myself for contributing to it. I've regretted it every day of my life since and will continue to do so until the day I die," she concluded her post.

The comment section was flooded with many people feeling relieved and grateful Rousey took accountability for her past mistakes.

One person commented on X, "Nothing shows true remorse like apologizing for something that no one even realized you did. This is so clearly heartfelt that it's hard to imagine anyone questioning it. People make mistakes. You clearly did. You realized yours quickly and not because of backlash."

Another individual commented, "I can respect this. Maturity and evolution. Never been a Ronda fan, but I can respect this. If you cannot hold yourself accountable, how can anybody expect to grow."

Some fans think she shouldn't have to apologize since her actions were so long ago and commended her for still caring.

"You're apologising for a retweet you did 11 years ago, one that hardly anybody saw or noticed? If that's the worst thing eating you up inside, you're doing alright," an X user wrote.

However, others were upset with how long the apology took and viewed it as insincere.

"long long overdue ,its sad it took a reddit AMA to get you to actually apologize, its a well written one at that," one user wrote.

Rousey's apology comes after her Reddit AMA thread on Tuesday, August 20, was met with a multitude of angry comments from Reddit users regarding the conspiracy theory.

The WWE alum's post already has over 3 million views on X.
