For those just tuning in, country singer Elle King happens to be the daughter of SNL alum and comedian Rob Schneider. Recently, King has spoken out about her estranged relationship with her father and divulged buried memories about her rocky childhood.
Schneider, who has been steeped in controversy over the years, shares Elle with ex-wife London King, to whom he was married from 1988 to 1990.
Regarding her parents' short-lived marriage, Elle, 35 commented in a 2015 Billboard interview that she "was born out of a Vegas marriage," noting: "My parents got married three days after they met."
Despite her parents' fast and loose relationship, the "Exes and Ohs" singer "does have lots of [good] memories" from her dad's time on SNL, Elle said on the Watch What Happens Live After Show in January 2023, including a memory of the late Chris Farley and her Dad.
"[Chris], like, plopped me on his lap and he was holding a balloon and doing this thing that he does" – she flashed a vintage Farley smile — and I remember feeling terrified," the four-time Grammy nominee recalled.
Although Elle spent most of her childhood with her mother, in 2019, she and her dad did hit the stage and sing a duet of The Beatles' "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival.
During a 2015 episode of The Meredith Vieira Show, Schneider gushed about his daughter's success. "She did it all on her own, she really did. That's why she wanted to have her own name, because it's tough being the kid of a famous person," he explained, "But she did it on her own, I'm really proud of her."
As of late, Elle has become more vocal about her sour memories from childhood and beyond. On Bunnie XO's Dumb Blonde podcast, she claimed that her father sent her to "fat camp as a kid" which she called toxic, though "he brought her to movie sets, Elle added, she'd get in "f***ing trouble" if she ever got in the way of him working.
She also shared on the pod, "I don't want to be associated with him."
The Hot Chick star responded to his daughters' comments in an August 2024 episode of The Tucker Carlson Show podcast, joking, "It's fun being a parent, isn't it?"
However, Schneider appeared remorseful when discussing his daughter's chosen estrangement. "I want to just tell my daughter: Elle, I love you, and I wish I was the father of my 20s that you needed," he confessed. "I clearly wasn't, and I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings."
"If you love somebody completely, you just—I love her. And all I want for her is to be happy and to heal from this," he said. "I apologize completely for and accept responsibility for not being the parent that I am now with my new kids. She didn't get that, and I missed a lot."
Schneider, who is also the father to Miranda Scarlett Schneider and Madeline Robbie Schneider with current wife Arce, continued his apology by expressing his wishes for Elle.
