Naomi Campbell might have thrown some shade at Anna Wintour on social media after slighting the fashion editor onstage this week.

On Tuesday, the supermodel made headlines when she appeared to be unhappy with the Vogue magazine editor-in-chief at Harlem's Fashion Row's Fashion Show and Style Awards.

Campbell was there to receive the Fashion Icon Award and was first introduced at the event by Wintour, who poked fun at the model's reputation for arriving late to things.

"I am a very punctual person, and I have the honor of presenting tonight to someone who is often late," Wintour said onstage and added about Campbell that she was, "bold, bright and entirely, unquestionably herself."

Later, Harper's Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Samira Nasr also gave a speech about Campbell before inviting her onstage to present her with the award.

When Campbell went up to receive her honor, she began her speech by addressing Wintour's comments.

"Yes, Naomi's always late," the model began and laughed. "But I believe in my high power, and I want to thank my higher power for having me be here. It's so important that I'm here today, and I'm honored to be here in Harlem."

Campbell then turned to Nasr and said, "Everything's going to work out the way it's meant to work out. It wasn't my choice to have the other lady. I'd much rather have this."

Videos of the moment were shared on social media, and gasps of shock could be heard from the audience at Campbell's apparent reference to Wintour as "the other lady."

One person on social media said that when Campbell was late in accepting the award, Wintour handed it to Nasr to give to the model.

"Naomi Campbell threw a shade on Anna Wintour. Naomi was late and Anna didn't wait for her. Anna gave the award to Samira to present it to Naomi. Naomi didn't want Anna to present her an award anyways," wrote @starpush2 on X (formerly Twitter).

Following the event, the British supermodel posted a photo from the event to her Instagram, which showed Nasr accepting the award for editor of the year.

She completed the post with a "congratulations" banner GIF, love heart emojis and fire and hand-clapping emojis.

Newsweek contacted Campbell's representatives by email for comment.

The relationship between the pair has not always been frosty. It was Wintour who fought to have Campbell grace the editor's first September issue of Vogue in 1989, even though there was opposition to putting a Black person on the cover. The September issue of fashion magazines is considered to be one of the most important because "the autumn/winter collections carry so much influence," according to Glamour UK.

"You've been a huge part of my history with Vogue," Wintour told Campbell on the latter's YouTube series, No Filter With Naomi, in 2020.

To which Campbell replied, "You've been a huge part of my life." The two went on to discuss the cover photo shoot for that issue and Wintour revealed that she had to advocate to get the model on the front.

"In those days, we didn't have any kind of technology, and I used to have to present the issues by hand to the corporate board, which included at that time S.I. Newhouse, who was my boss and my great mentor," Wintour told her.

"I remember holding up your beautiful cover and showing it to him, and he said, 'Oh Anna.' It wasn't a criticism in any way, it was just a question," Wintour continued, "He said, 'You're going to put an African American model on the September cover of American Vogue?' Honestly, Naomi, it never crossed my mind to think that way."

"I just thought: This is a fantastic girl, this is the model of the moment, this is a great image. And we made history together, so thank you."

Campbell replied, "Wow, thank you, I'm honored that you put me on your first September issue of American Vogue. I knew that you fought for me, but I never actually heard it in this way."

The supermodel also sang Wintour's praises in an interview with CNN Style in 2016.

"Anna gave me such a great opportunity, and I had no idea how much she had to fight for that," Campbell said of the Vogue cover.
