Beyonce has revealed how she "did not want" daughter Blue Ivy Carter onstage during her Renaissance world tour, saying the 12-year-old "wanted it for herself".

The singing superstar's eldest child caused a stir last year when she showed off her dance skills alongside her mother and backing dancers.

The 43-year-old has now spoken about how it all came about and watching the youngster "grow" each night.

In a new interview with GQ Magazine, Beyonce discussed how Carter approached her role and how she only tours when her three children are not in school.

"Blue is an artist," she stated. "She has great taste in music and fashion. She is a fantastic editor, painter, and actress.

"She has been creating characters since she was three. She's a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage."

Beyonce continued: "Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun!

"We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes."
