Meghan Markle continuing to give a speech about bookshops being safe havens even as Oprah Winfrey was led to her seat has gone viral on Instagram after a clip was posted by royal fashion expert Elizabeth Holmes.

The Duchess of Sussex was speaking to guests at a private event marking the opening of Godmothers bookstore in Summerland, California.

And part way through the superstar host, who conducted her bombshell interview about race and the royal family, strolled in and was shown to her seat in the front row, having been in the green room prepping for her own talk.

While such a moment may not have turned heads in a large auditorium, the bookstore is small enough that it is hard to imagine a more conspicuous late arrival—short of the presidential candidates turning up unannounced.

A clip of the bizarre moment was shared by Holmes, author of HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style, as an Instagram reel with the on-screen caption: "When you are listening to one VIP and another comes in..."

The clip was viewed around 200k times and was posted with the message: "A little wave from OPRAH! 👋🤯🙌

"(This was the second day of the @godmothersbooks opening weekend festivities. Oprah had been in the green room, prepping for her part of the program, and was seated as Meghan was speaking. She slipped in so discreetly I didn't realize it was her until she was right in front of me. So surreal!)"

"The safety of what I was craving I knew I could find in a bookstore. So, you get the book, go to the checkout, place it there at the counter..."

Meanwhile, Oprah is led in by what appears to be a staff member, who shows her to a seat in the front row.

She can be seen briefly waving and saying "hey" to those behind her followed by a quick "sorry" for the distraction.

Meghan's attendance at the event, about a ten-minute drive from her house, first emerged at the weekend, but it was not until Tuesday that Holmes posted the footage.

In a piece in Town & Country, she praised Meghan's all-ivory outfit which she said was paired with a Ralph Lauren tank and pants, black Aquazurra shoes, a black Khaite clutch and Heidi Merrick sunglasses.
