In a world where camera phones are omnipresent, even superstars aren't spared from invasive snapshots. On Sunday, September 15, Shakira's dance to her new single "Soltera" at Miami's LIV nightclub took an abrupt nosedive into discomfort, leading the 47-year-old global sensation to storm off the stage.
The incident unraveled when Shakira noticed a concert-goer's camera angled suspiciously upwards. As captured in a viral fan video on X (formerly Twitter), the Grammy winner was initially all smiles, dancing to her new hit.
However, the mood shifted dramatically when she spotted the unwelcome filming. With a quick finger wave, she signaled to the offender to cease, adjusting her skirt in a clear display of disapproval.
Despite her signal, the filming persisted. Frustration etched on her face, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer gave her skirt another tug, shook her head, and made the decisive move to exit the stage. Fans at the event and online quickly voiced their support, condemning the invasive act.
"Shakira can't even enjoy and dance to her OWN song like??" one fan lamented.
"Whoever was filming should be arrested for sexual assault," suggested another.
"That's just beyond gross. Shakira had every right to walk off, no one should have to deal with that kind of disrespect, especially when she's just out there performing her music. People need to learn how to act with basic decency!" chimed in a third.
But not all reactions sided with the music star. Some comments reflected a disturbing perspective, with one remarking, "That will teach her to dress appropriately. People are not gross. They are teaching her a lesson."
Another individual said, "Maybe she should also wear an appropriate size dress. Wants to be a sex symbol but doesn't want the consequences of what comes with it. Females think consequences for the way they behave don't exist. Eve sure did bite that apple."
Getting a handle on the situation the following day, the club explained to Page Six that "it was actually [Shakira's] photo and video team that she was trying to get to stop filming her while she was enjoying."
