The two-time Golden Globe winner has two sons: Henry, whom he shares with his former partner, Polish actress and singer Alicja Bachleda-Curús, and James, 21, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend, model Kim Bordenave. His eldest son, James, has a rare neurogenetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome, which causes developmental disabilities, movement issues, seizures, and speech problems.

The Banshees of Inisherin actor has discussed his children on The Ellen Show several times. In 2020, Colin told Ellen that his boys didn't like that he was playing Penguin. "Now your kids must be happy that you're in Batman," Ellen remarked. Surprisingly, Colin told the talk show host that wasn't the case, as his kids don't want him to play a villain. "No, they're sick of me being a bad guy," Colin responded. However, the actor saw a bright side in this; his sons probably see their dad as a "good guy" in real life. "Which apparently, reading between the lines leads me to believe they think I'm ok," Colin admitted.

Ellen went on to say that Colin's kids haven't seen his films because they are more mature. "You don't let your kids see your movies because a lot of them are kind of [for adults]," she stated. The Academy Award-nominated actor explained it was a nonissue because James and Henry had no interest in his work oh, how times have changed! "Well, I wish I had a choice," Colin exclaimed. "They don't want to."

The Penguin will premiere on Max on Thursday, September 19, and episodes will be released on a weekly basis.
