Prince William's apparent nickname for Princess Charlotte has been praised by fans after footage from a rare public engagement attended by all three children of the royal and Princess Kate went viral on social media site TikTok.

In a clip taken from the Wales family's inspection of the "Back to Nature Garden" at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019, which was co-created by Kate, William can be heard calling out to his daughter, with fans and the press noting his use of the touching nickname: "Mignonette."

In French the word, derived from "mignon," can have a number of meanings, including "dainty" or "cute."

Uploaded to TikTok by user @dearesroyals, on July 8, the clip from the flower show engagement features alongside several other pieces of footage showing William's bond with his nine-year-old daughter.

Charlotte has often been seen at her father's side during official appearances, holding his hand or asking him questions, most notably in recent years the pair have filmed short video clips to send to the England women's soccer team when they have played in major games.

Captioned "Charlotte's nickname given by William" and "Their relationship as father and daughter 😭🤍," the TikTok clip has gained over 100,000 views on the social media platform so far, and in excess of 11,000 likes and numerous comments, many of which have praised the royal duo.

"The bond between them [is] loveable🥰," wrote one fan of the clip.

"Best father and daughter," posted another, with a further comment reading: "Prince Philip called QEII [Queen Elizabeth II] 'cabbage' so mignonette is a huge step up! 😂😂."

Since the death of Queen Elizabeth in 2022, Charlotte and her siblings, Prince George (10) and Prince Louis (6), have seen their public profiles increase as they moved one position closer to the throne in the official line of succession.

The princess is currently third in line to inherit the throne, though will likely move down the line if older brother George has children.

George, Charlotte and Louis have all attended a number of high-profile events since the accession of their grandfather, King Charles III, including his coronation at Westminster Abbey in May 2023.

This year, the children have taken a less visible position in the public eye as Princess Kate received her cancer diagnosis and has been undergoing a course of preventative chemotherapy treatment.

The Wales family were all present at the Trooping the Colour celebrations in June, where Kate was seen for the first time at an official event since her cancer news.
