The Daily Show has ridiculed Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance, mocking the Republican politician for his past criticism of the former president.

On Monday, Trump announced Vance as his pick for Vice President on Truth Social, the network he founded after being barred from Twitter in 2021. However, the decision raised eyebrows, considering the Ohio Junior Senator's previous remarks about Trump.

In a post shared to X, formerly Twitter, the satirical news show shared some of Vance's past comments about the presumptive Republican candidate for 2024.

The list appears to have been taken from a recent Fox News broadcast on the contenders for Trump's Vice Presidential pick. Accompanied by a headshot of Vance, the list includes: "Might be America's Hitler," "terrible candidate," "never liked him" and "idiot if you voted for him."

"INSPIRATIONAL: This Ohio man overcame the debilitating burden of his own principles," the show wrote alongside the collage of quotes.

Since being shared on Monday, the post has received over 1 million views. Newsweek has reached out to JD Vance for comment by contact form.

On Truth Social, Trump said he'd chosen Vance after "lengthy deliberation and thought and considering the tremendous talents of many others."

Vance first rose to fame in 2016, after publishing the memoir Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis. The book recounted his childhood in poverty in Middletown, Ohio, and his journey to Yale Law School.

The 39-year-old said he did not vote for Trump in 2016. During an appearance on Charlie Rose, Vance described himself as "not a Trump guy," and in now-deleted posts shared to X, he called the business mogul an "idiot" and "reprehensible."

However, Vance has since changed his tune on Trump, and landed The Apprentice star's endorsement during his run for the Ohio state senate in 2021.

Vance addressed his past criticism of Trump during an interview with Fox News in June.

"Look, I was wrong about Donald Trump," he told host Brett Baier. "I didn't think he was gonna be a good president, Bret. He was a great president. And it's one of the reasons why I'm working so hard to make sure he gets a second term."

The Daily Show did not air as scheduled on Monday evening. Host Jon Stewart, who returned to the late-night show in February after a nine-year hiatus, intended to cover the Republican National Convention (RNC) on the ground. However, the plan was scrapped and the comedian will be reporting on the remainder of the July 15 to18 convention from the studio in New York City.

The Daily Show's social media posts provided an explanation for the schedule change, telling viewers that the switch-up was caused by "logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee," where the RNC is held.
