Princess Kate and Prince William have released a touching new portrait to mark the birthday of their son, Prince George.

The young royal, who is second in line to inherit the British throne, turned 11 on Monday after making a series of high-profile public appearances in recent months.

The official Kensington Palace social media accounts shared a new photograph taken by Kate to mark the occasion, showing George dressed dapper in a suit and white shirt, with no tie.

While the Wales family handled the initial stages of Kate's health challenges, George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, mainly remained out of the public eye. They made their first official joint appearance of 2024 in June at the Trooping the Colour celebrations with their parents.

George has made several other appearances at soccer games with Prince William.

In April, he attended a match played by his father's favorite team, Aston Villa. This was followed by an appearance at the FA Cup Final in May and most recently a trip to Berlin to watch the UEFA Euros final where he and William appeared alongside members of the Spanish royal family.

The prince and his siblings were all present at their grandfather, King Charles III's, coronation in May 2023. However, it was George who took on a historic role at the event.

The new monarch asked his grandson to be one of his official Pages of Honour for the event, which saw the young royal and a number of other similarly aged boys connected with Charles process through Westminster Abbey, holding his velvet robes.

The pages appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the king and Queen Camilla after the ceremony and posed for an official portrait in the palace throne room.

Since 2022, George has attended Lambrook School near Windsor with Charlotte and Louis. His schooling has become the subject of interest in Britain as he is expected to leave Lambrook's upper school in 2026 at the age of 13.

Whether William and Kate decide to follow the established British upper class tradition of sending their son to boarding school (William and Prince Harry attended Eton College a short walk from Windsor Castle) or a day school is already a topic of speculation in Britain.
