Selena Gomez is setting the record straight with just a few words. Amid swirling rumors about plastic surgery, the 32-year-old singer and actress used a simple yet powerful statement to clear the air, declaring, "I have Botox. That's it. Leave me alone."

This response emerged on Saturday, July 27, when Gomez addressed a 2023 video posted by Marissa Barrionuevo, a physician assistant in plastic surgery, known for her educational content on various cosmetic procedures. Unlike many posts speculating about celebrity surgeries, Barrionuevo's video on Gomez didn't presume any cosmetic alterations. Instead, it acknowledged Gomez's well-documented health battles, including lupus, which has visibly impacted her appearance over the years.

In her video, Barrionuevo expressed reluctance to guess if the Only Murders in the Building star had undergone surgery, citing respect for her medical challenges. "I think she's been through so much in her life, especially medically related, so I don't think it's fair to speculate whether or not she's gotten cosmetic things done," she said. "At the end of the day, let's just leave her be."

Yet, the discussion around the former Disney Channel alum's appearance has been a recurring theme, fueled by visual changes over the years. At the 2023 Golden Globes, noticeable differences in her appearance sparked further public conjecture, prompting Gomez to explain in her comment that she had been on steroids due to a flare-up, mistyping "stripes" instead of "steroids."

Following the backlash, Barrionuevo took to TikTok again on Sunday, July 28, to issue an apology directly to Gomez. "I really hope Selena Gomez does not hate me," she started, reiterating her stance on leaving Gomez's personal choices alone and regretting any distress her video may have caused. "I adore you and any before-and-after that I've posted of celebrities and stuff, I try to do it with so much grace and to not tear people down — that is never ever ever my intention when it comes to it, and it's also why I stopped doing it, because I think people thought my intentions were elsewhere when it comes to videos like that, and I really do mean the best," she added.
