Top Chef alum Shirley Chung took to her Instagram on Friday, July 26 to share with her fans that she has been diagnosed with stage 4 tongue cancer.

According to US Weekly, the 47-year-old executive chef said, "Since last December, I had a series of dental issues. I bit my tongue severely, I fractured my tooth and had to extract it and get an implant... we thought it was because I am a heavy teeth grinder."

Alongside the video of her head being shaved, the chef shared in the caption, "I was very calm when doctors delivered the news. As a chef, I've always thrived under pressure. I was extremely focused on getting all the tests and scans as fast as possible, so I can start on the treatment plans."

In the same post, Chung stated, "I just finished 6 weeks of chemo (and have many more to go), going to the hospital 4 times a week for injections. It's like a full-time job. My tumor is shrinking, my speech is much better, and I can eat most normal food now. I am learning to lean on others, to let go, to be more vulnerable... it took me 2 weeks of contemplating to decide to tell my parents about my cancer. Only my close circle of friends and my sister have known until now."

The Beijing-born chef finished with the inspirational words, "I am learning, I can be strong 98% of the time, it's ok to be not ok. I have a tough long road to recovery in front of me. Your love and support will carry me through. Cheer me on, Shirley Chung 2.0 will be reborn in 2025!"

Since posting, she received multiple inspiring and encouraging replies from celebrity chefs such as Amanda Freitag, who shared, "SHIRLEY!!!! You are such an incredible human, and I know you are a unicorn and will beat this with style and grace. You are such an inspiration for so many. I love you, and your chef community is here to support you!" Chef Stephanie Izard replied with, "Love you, friend!!! Keep being badass and staying as positive as you always do! Hugs from me and Ernie!"

Her fans supported her by offering words of encouragement, including comments like, "Sending you strength and love and support!!" and, "Send my strong prayers and positive power around you. You are a strong chef, you will pass all conditions. We all love you and are proud of you. Thanks for sharing."
