Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son Pax has been released from the ICU after a frightening traffic accident in Los Angeles.

The 20-year-old had suffered "complex trauma" following his electric bicycle accident in Los Angeles on Monday, July 29. He has a "long road of recovery and physical therapy" ahead of him, a close friend of the family told Us Weekly on Sunday, August 4.

The source also told the publication that the Eternals star, 49, and her son are "deeply grateful for the quick and life-saving action of first responders and the outstanding medical care he received."

Following the accident — in which Pax crashed his bike into a car stopped at a red light — he was left in "stable" condition. His doting mother "is with him" and "his siblings visit and help," the source also added.

The accident took place around 5 p.m., which happened to be during rush hour, at Hobart and Los Angeles Boulevard, the LAPD reported. Pax had reportedly not been wearing a helmet at the time, and it was feared the son of Jolie and Pitt, 60, had suffered a minor brain bleed and hip pain, per TMZ, the outlet that first reported the incident.

Pax is not often in the spotlight, despite his famous family, though he did attend the 2021 premiere of Paper & Glue: A JR Project documentary, with his mother and sister Shiloh.

Pax's parents — who fell in love on the set of 2005's Mr. & Mrs. Smith, married in 2014, and divorced in 2016 — also share biological children Shiloh, 18, Vivienne and Knox, 15, and adopted children Maddox, 22, and Zahara, 19.

Pax's accident comes amid Shiloh requesting to legally change her last name to just Jolie, rather than Jolie-Pitt. Us Weekly reported it has to do with loyalty to her mother during her parents' contentious divorce. Vivienne also opted to go by "Vivienne Jolie" in a playbill for her Broadway production of The Outsiders, and Zahara seemingly dropped her father's last name as well, identifying herself at college as "Zahara Marley Jolie."

"They've struggled to forgive and connect with Brad since the divorce," a source told the publication. "Their mom is the head of the household, and she's raised them with love and selflessness their whole lives. Once Brad left, it was very hard for them to see him go to war with her."
