Jack Black has revealed he stormed off the set of Tropic Thunder after an accident involving a water buffalo made his "life flash before his eyes."

During an appearance on the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Black explained how one of the scenes in the 2008 film Tropic Thunder required him to ride a water buffalo – something he was not too happy about.

Setting the scene, comedian and singer Black told O'Brien: "So, I'm on the back of this water buffalo. They assure me that it's safe. And you know, they, they got the animal trainers on these movies. I'm afraid of dogs. I'm afraid of animals because it's my natural fear of the unpredictability of the animal Kingdom. You don't know what they're gonna do. But I had been assured everything's cool. So, I got on the back of it and I'm supposed to come around the bend on this mountain path and I'm just in my underpants and I think I'm strapped to the Buffalo because I'm like going through a drug withdrawal at the same time."

"I'm a sweaty mess and the buffalo, I can tell, is just a little bit uncomfortable and, and they say action and we start moving and, and I'm like "ohh, what's happening here?" Maybe it sensed my fear, but it was uncomfortable, and it just started bucking bronco."

"I flew and did a little 'flippy do' and landed miraculously between two boulders and did not get injured at all. I did not have a hematoma."

Because the incident occurred out of camera shot, none of the crew, including director Ben Stiller, were aware what had happened.

Black recalled: "Ben, I could hear him off in the distance say: "What's going on? Are we cutting? Jack, take it from the top. We didn't get any of it." And I was like 'No! You take it from the top, you get on this buffalo.'"

"I saw my life flash before my eyes, and I stormed off to my trailer because I was like shaking and not in any mood to be in the movie anymore."

"Or any movie ever again," joked O'Brien.

Thankfully, Black's "hero" stuntman Jimmy Waitman stepped in and rode the buffalo instead.

However, the story doesn't end there as Black revealed the team later discovered that the reason the water buffalo was so uncomfortable was because it was pregnant.

In a twist of fate the baby buffalo was named...Jack!
