British pop singer Mimi Webb recently performed at Chicago's summer music festival, Lollapalooza, and released a new single, Erase You. The song, like most of her music, explores getting over heartbreak and moving on from failed relationships. Newsweek's Ramsen Shamon spoke to the artist on Sunday, repped by Billie Eilish's team, about her music and what fans can expect from the 2023 BRIT Award "Best New Talent" nominee in the future.

Q_How are you feeling before your Lollapalooza performance?

A_I'm feeling really good. I was at the after-party performance last night, which was so much fun, with Tate [McRae]. That was really great. I feel like I've had a taste of the Lolla atmosphere and energy. I just absolutely loved it. Today's gonna be another round of that.

What will you do before hitting the stage?

I'll [drink] a little Diet Coke, just to kind of get my energy going. And then, because last night was a very late show, I'll make sure I get my vocals all good. And make sure I do my warm ups. We do pictures, and TikTok I want to do before [getting on] stage. And then out we go.

Congrats on your new video for Erase You.

Thank you so much.

Did you shoot it in different locations?

Yeah, I did it in South of France, which was really fun. We got to [film] it in a villa. Then we did a bit of a beach scene, when we were biking across the seafront, and then we did quad biking there. It was really fun to do activities, like a girl's summer holiday villa vibe. Laughs.

Was that where you celebrated your birthday? Happy belated birthday!

Thank you so much. Yes, I love South France. Europe's gorgeous, and it's so great. It's like a two hour flight for us in the U.K.

Do you get recognized when you're out and about?

Yeah! I feel like it always happens when you least expect it. I think it's quite fun. But I love meeting everyone. It's so nice.

You have a song called Red Flags. What are some red flags for you in terms of dating, or in general?

Their relationship with family and friends. I think that's really interesting. There was this situation where I met someone who'd fallen out [with] their whole family. As a really family-orientated person—I understand that not everyone gets on with their family—but for me, that's a bit of a red flag because I just love my family. That's a [red flag]. Also, whether they wear socks—like, odd socks. Laughs. That's like a silly red flag.

Like different colored socks?

Yeah. Like, if it's like a completely different sock. I'm like, "No, you need to organize."

Different paired socks worn together?

Yeah. Like, say, a blue pair and a pink pair [worn together]. I don't know, some people just can't be bothered to look. That's very intense for me.

What was your worst date ever?

Oh gosh, it was when I was younger, my teenage years. When it was those awkward dates where you've said everything you've wanted to say, then you just don't know what to say next. Awkwardly looking at each other, like, who's gonna get the bill? And who's gonna call it a day?

When can we expect an album?

Definitely next year—100 percent. I'm really looking forward to getting that out. I've been working so hard on it this year, and it's been so nice to be able to go to LA and write everything there—a little change of scenery. It's been so much fun. I feel like everyone's gonna really love the kind of growth I've had in this album and the leveling up of the kind of sound I've got—making it better.

What themes will be explored?

Do you know what? There's a lot more themes [in this new album] than I wrote in my first album. There's a lot of different things going on, which I think is why I love it so much. There's been a lot of different things that have happened to me in my life, and it's been so good to be able to write it down. And I think people are going to feel a lot more connected with some of the things I'm talking about in the songs.

Will it be released in the summer?

I'd love to do a summer album. I've never done that before. I feel like it'd be really fun for me. And I'm a Leo girl. Summer is my season. Laughs.

Did you collab with anyone on the album?

Don't know. Maybe. We'll see. Laughs.

Who do you want to work with?

Charli XCX, [she's] incredible.

Are you having a brat summer?

I'm having a big time brat summer. I love it honestly. Best summer I've had for a long time. Who else? I would love to do something [with] John Summit. I think that'd be sick. I love his tunes, especially in Europe, and all the really cool shows he's doing.

How does it feel to be represented by Billie Eilish's team?

They're honestly incredible—my management. They're so great, and Billie's amazing. And all the other artists on the team and part of the roster are just so lovely.

Describe your music in three words.

Sassy. Outspoken. And emotional. I could go 10 words. There's honestly different things I could start saying. Laughs.

What's your song of the summer? Something you've got on repeat?

I Had Some Help, the Post Malone and Morgan Wallen song. I'm just obsessed with it at the moment.

Is there a culture shock you've noticed while being in the U.S.? Besides driving on the opposite side of the road?

Yeah, that's a good one. I think it's just the way people speak. We don't say "dude," or "man" or "bro"—"bro" we do a bit. It's the slang, and that's a bit of a shock for me. The different slang words that we use—I think our ours are a lot more aggressive. But I'm trying to think, what else? Also, things shut quite early. Like bars and [places for] going out. Our places [in the U.K.] open until at least 6 a.m.

What do you want to tell your fans?

I'm so excited this new era coming. And I can't wait for you all to hear the new music. Thank you all so much for the support so far, and I can't wait! Here we go!
