Demi Lovato has had an impressive film, television, and music run. And while four platinum albums, as well as four Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits, one might imagine she maintains her momentum. However, Lovato, 31, has admitted that she's ready to move on from music — even though she might not be able to do so.

Lovato first came to fame with stints on Barney & Friends and broke through starring in the 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie Musical, Camp Rock, which allowed fans to get a taste of her musical chops. Lovato, who was 16 at the time, would release her debut album Don't Forget that same year. Since then, she's released a total of eight albums, her most recent being 2022's Holy Fvck.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she reflected on her career as both an actress and a musician, noting that given her experience in the industry, she wouldn't want her hypothetical children to follow the same path.

"I'd say, 'Let's study music theory and prepare you for the day you turn 18, because it's not happening before that. Not because I don't believe in you or love you or want you to be happy, but because I want you to have a childhood, the childhood that I didn't have,' " said Lovato. " 'And also, let's come up with a backup plan,' which is something I wish I'd done because sometimes I think it's time for me to move on, but I'm in this weird position in my career because I still rely on music for my income."

Lovato didn't go into details about her record deals, but last year, she released Revamped — a compilation album featuring rock-influenced re-recordings of some of her biggest hits, like "Heart Attack" and "Cool for the Summer" — presumably to gain control of her master recordings, a la Taylor Swift.

She also revealed that she is in the studio making new music, but isn't sure if she'll ever tour again. "It takes a toll on your body," Lovato said. "I'm not 15 anymore."

Lovato's upcoming documentary, Child Star premieres on Hulu Sept. 17. The documentary, which Lovato directed, will examine the lives of child stars, and will feature interviews with Kenan Thompson, Jojo Siwa, Raven-Symoné, Christina Ricci, and Drew Barrymore.
