It's been 25 years since Christina Aguilera first stepped onto the scene with her hit single "Genie In A Bottle." Over the course of her career, she's sold over 100 million records and won five Grammy awards. While she's reflected fondly on her pop stardom and musical prowess, and even said has more music on the way, Aguilera, 43, says motherhood is her first priority.

In an interview with Glamour, Aguilera got personal about her two children — son Max Liron, 16, whom she shares with her ex-husband Jordan Bratman, and daughter, Summer Rain, 10 whom she shares with her fiancé Matt Rutler. As her children grow up, Aguilera has found herself wanting to protect them with greater fervor. However, she is aware that she has to let them endure the many rites of passage that come with getting older.

"I've seen so much so young," Aguilera said. "You just want the best for your kids."

Aguilera recorded her self-titled debut album when she was 17, but before breaking into the pop music landscape, she was a cast member of The Mickey Mouse Club, alongside Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Ryan Gosling. Outside of stardom, Aguilera has long been open about her complicated relationship with her father.

Despite her motherly instincts, Aguilera knows that while her kids are still young enough to rely on her for protection, they're old enough to make mistakes and to learn and grow from them.

"I love my son and my daughter so much, and you do want to shield and protect them from the world," Aguilera said, while, as the Glamour reporter noted, grabbing a box of tissues. "But they have to learn their own lessons."

Like any mother, Aguilera admitted that she still holds onto her children's youth, grappling onto memories and holding certain moments close to her heart.

"I'll never see that person again." Aguilera said. "They're going to make their own choices and mistakes that define how they want to be. It's such a layered, interesting thing to be a parent and watch these people, these humans, grow up."

Elsewhere in the interview, Aguilera revealed that she has an English-language album on the way. She will wrap her Las Vegas residency Christina Aguilera at Voltaire on Saturday, August 31. Though a new era may be imminent, Aguilera said she isn't prioritizing a tour at the moment.

"I don't want to say that out loud because my fans would be very sad," Aguilera said. "But I truly do enjoy being home base and accessible to my kids."
